American Literature II: Session Theme – Critical (Dis)continuity and
Literature of Displacement
Convention of the South Central Modern Language Association
October 29-31, 2009
Baton Rouge, LA

The SCMLA American Literature II session chair is now accepting proposals
on any aspect of American literature since 1900 for the organization’s 2009
conference. Some preference will be given to proposals that loosely or
directly incorporate the session theme, which is itself a variation on this
year’s general conference theme of “Continuity and Displacement.”
Presentations may offer readings of specific texts, reexaminations of
particular writers, or challenges to prevailing critical orientations of
twentieth and twenty-first century literature. The chair is particularly
interested in abstracts that involve alternate Modernisms, expatriate
literature, and marginalized writers, though potential presenters are
encouraged to interpret and imply the session theme to their own research.

To propose a paper, please send a 500-word abstract as a MS Word
attachment, as well as a brief biography or C.V. in the body of the e-mail,
to Ryan Crider, session chair, at ryancrider79_at_gmail.com no later than
March 27, 2009.
