The Jewish Studies Area of the Popular Culture Association is organizing at=20
least one panel on specifically evaluating the body of work by the=20
multi-talented Kirk Douglas for the 2007 conference of the ACA/PCA in Boston=
Massachusetts, April 4-7, 2007.
Even after his severe stroke, Kirk Douglas has continued to be a force in=20
film and publishing. As an actor, he has starred in such important films as=
Paths of Glory, Seven Days in May, and Spartacus, and starred on Broadway as=
Randall McMurphy in the play adaptation of One Flew Over the Cuckoo=E2=80=
=99s Nest. As an=20
author, he has written several popular books, including The Ragman=E2=80=99s=
 Son and=20
My Stroke of Luck. =20
Presentation proposals should examine Kirk Douglas and his influence on=20
popular culture. You may choose to examine one particular project or a sele=
body of his work. You may also focus on the re-embracing of his Jewish iden=
and religion late in his life. =20
Proposals should be approximately 250 words in length and must include your=20
mailing address, telephone number, and email address.
All proposals should be emailed to both the Area Chair and Associate Area=20
Chair. DO NOT SEND ATTACHMENTS. Please copy-and-paste your proposal into t=
email message.
