CFP: [American] *SEDUCTION AND SENTIMENT IN THE ATLANTIC WORLD* (essay collection)
*SEDUCTION AND SENTIMENT IN THE ATLANTIC WORLD* (essay collection)
What relations pertained between seduction plots, sentimental narratives,
and the economic and political imperatives of the Atlantic world in the
seventeenth and eighteenth centuries? When, how, and why are the languages
of seduction (whether sexual, financial, social, cultural, or political)
and sentiment (whether designed to foreground feeling or to produce
sympathy and affective relations) positioned in relation to one another? In
what ways do the varied exigencies of the seventeenth- and
eighteenth-century Atlantic world reconfigure old and shape new
possibilities for seduction and sentiment?
The editors seek abstracts for essays to be completed by December 1,2009.
