Call for Papers: Southwest Texas PCA Annual Conference 2009

Area: Television
Panel Topic: TV’s Mad Men

Set in the early 1960s advertising world, the stylish AMC series Mad Men
has been a hit with audiences and critics. Mad Men explores an America on
the brink of the change between the repression and rigid racial, class and
gender roles of the 1950s and the burgeoning social and cultural turmoil of
the 1960s. Yet, creator Matthew Weiner has said it was his goal to make
the show seem as contemporary as possible, to show how little removed we
actually are from these characters and their prejudices.

This panel calls for papers addressing any aspect of Mad Men. Send
abstracts of 250-500 words to Maura Grady at by November 10th.
