CFP: National Women's Studies Association Journal (NWSA Journal)

Special Issue on Aging, Ageism, and Old Age, Spring 2006

Feminist theorists of old age, such as Baba Copper, Barbara Macdonald,
Cynthia Rich, and Margaret Cruikshank have charged that women's studies and
the feminist movement have, in large part, ignored the issue of aging. In a
field in which so many other aspects of body-based identity are recognized,
debated, de- and re-constructed, and challenged, the subject of old age
remains relatively unexamined and untheorized - nearly taboo.

TEXTUAL ETHOS STUDIES: AN EXPLORATORY READER

The Iowa Journal of Cultural Studies is currently seeking reviews and
review essays for our special issue "Nostalgia," co-edited by Tom Lutz and
Sean Scanlan. Possible texts to review include, but are not limited to:
nostalgia in literature, film, television, architecture, music, art,
"entertainment", criticism and theory, memoir, fashion; and the nostalgic
qualities of recent critical texts not necessarily addressing nostalgia in
its content.

The University Press of Lapland (Finland) will publish a book entitled Lost and Found in Virtual Reality: Women and Information Technology.

Call for Papers

Skandalon is a refereed graduate e-journal edited and published by the students of the Centre for the Study of Theory & Criticism, University of Western Ontario.

Within the confines of its biblical and ecclesiastical heritage, the word skandalon signifies a seductive enticement or occasion that incites behaviour that leads one to turn away from God and enter a movement towards ruin. In this very movement of reversal, however, there resides a going astray that points towards the thinking or theorizing of, or on, the scandalized.

Quiet Mountain: New Feminist Essays, monthly online journal of women's writing, seeks previously unpublished 1-4 page essays written by women, from a feminist perspective.

Essay topics may include anything pertaining to: women's writing, art, work, politics, health, economics; women's personal/professional/academic experiences; lesbian life; women and class or disability issues. In addition, Michigan Feminist Studies organizes a JOURNAL COVER DESIGN
COMPETION, with the submission deadline May 15, 2004. The cover design

design contributions from art departments across the country as well as

Edited Book on Recent Arab Women's Autobiographical Writings in English
Call for contribution

    My book Reading Arab Women's Autobiographies. Shahrazad Tells Her
Story was published last November (2003) by Texas University Press.
The book fills a gap in the field. Texas University Press expressed
interest in another book in the same area.
    In the book, I looked at autobiographical, fictional
autobiographical and anthologies of interviews with women. I read texts
by Huda Shaarawi, Nawal El-Saadawi, Fadwa Tuqan, Bouthaina Shaaban,
Fatima Mernissi, and Nayra Atiya. The book also examined the
sociopolitical background of the texts as well as the tradition of
narrative theory.
