2005 Call for Papers, General Issue

Mester, the yearly graduate student academic journal of the Department of
Spanish and Portuguese at UCLA, seeks articles for its upcoming general
issue to be published in June 2005.

Our upcoming volume will be a general one open to any topic related to the
scope of the journal. Mester publishes critical articles, interviews, and
book reviews in the fields of Spanish, Portuguese, Spanish-American,
Brazilian and Chicano literatures and linguistics. Mester also welcomes
articles in Comparative Literature, Critical Theory and Cultural Studies.
Articles may be written in Spanish, Portuguese, or English.

How The West Was Won: New Perspectives on Transnational East Asian Cinema

With the success of Hero, Ringu (and its Hollywood remake), Oldboy and Ong-Bak in the west, contemporary East Asian cinema has transcended geographical, cultural and theoretical boundaries. The articles in this collection will examine films from the Far East and their transnational consumption as an ever changing process, presenting new perspectives that contest existing frameworks in film studies.

qui parle, the University of California at Berkeley's journal of critical theory and
interdisciplinary studies, currently seeks submissions for its late 2005 issue. Twice a year qui
parle publishes provocative articles covering a range of new outstanding theoretical and critical
work in the humanities. Founded in 1986 by an editorial board from the University of California at
Berkeley, qui parle is dedicated to expanding the dialogues that take place between the
disciplines, and that challenge received notions about reading and scholarship in the university.
Past contributors have included Giorgio Agamben, Benedict Anderson, Joan Copjec, and Judith

GENDER AND PLACES:
A CRITICAL LOOK AT MIGRATION

We are seeking first person narratives detailing experiences with and
perceptions of part time teaching at the university level. We do not
have any limitations in terms of word count; all we ask is that you be
as candid, passionate, opinionated as you can be in your contribution.
We plan to read through all of the submissions, compile the ones we like
the best into an anthology, and then submit it to a publisher for
consideration. Please send your submissions as Word attachments or
pasted into the text of an email with the subject line "adjunct
submission."
Include a 25 word bio and contact information (name, phone number,
