CFP: The Star and Celebrity Confessional
      Special Themed Issue Social Semiotics

confessional. The confessional, taken to be any moment in which a star,
celebrity, or fan engages in revelatory acts, has become one of the dominant
ways in which fame is circulated and consumed.

panel. All topics related to Native American literature are welcome, though
special consideration will be given to papers addressing this year's
conference theme, "Empathy and Ethics."

We are excited to announce that Currents in Electronic Literacy is
moving in a new direction. The Spring 2007 issue of Currents will
focus on reviews. We believe a journal based on reviews can be of much
greater relevance to the field than our past models, which consisted
of a few long articles supplemented by short book reviews. However, in
this new model we will conceive of "reviews" more broadly. In addition
to reviewing books, we are soliciting reviews of software, websites,
blogs, conferences, parallel academic programs, and pedagogical
practices. We hope that the new version of Currents will point out
emerging trends in the field of electronic literacy.

Rowlandson may have set a classroom standard for captivity narratives in
American literature but there are other stories to be considered.

In addition to those captured by Native Americans, slave narratives also
tell stories of life in captivity. And, captivity narratives are not limited to
an American tradition; many folk and fairy tales preceded them in other
cultures.
