Call for Panel Proposals for the Hemingway Society Panels at 2007 MLA in
Chicago
The Hemingway Society sponsors two panels each year at the meeting of the
Modern Language Association held in late December.
We invite ideas for panels through the following panel proposal process:
* Submit a 1 page proposal for the panel. The proposal should include
the "Call For Papers" that you would run to solicit papers for the panel and
an explanation of how the panel contributes to current Hemingway
scholarship. Please include the suggested panel title, your name, and your
institutional affiliation.

Live Comedy and Its Audiences
Seeking contributions for an anthology that explores live comedy audiences.=
The book will include contributions by both scholars and comedians, and wi=
ll focus on the dynamics of audience behaviour. The anthology will cover th=
emes including: cultural and historical differences in comedy audience prac=
tice; the architecture of the audience; the reception of 'low' versus 'high=
' and live versus televised comedy; the subjectivity of audience members an=
d the spread of affect; the two-way relationship between joker and listener=
; and the comedy club as a distinct spatial and emotional environment. Addi=
tional topics also welcome.=20

The 17th Annual Conference on Virginia Woolf will take place Thursday, June
7 through Sunday June 10, 2007, at the Marcum Conference Center of Miami
University of Ohio, in Oxford, Ohio.
We welcome proposals for academic presentations, roundtable discussions, and
creative performances on the conference topic of Art, Education, and
Internationalism.
Proposals addressing diverse perspectives on the following topics are
especially encouraged:
Peace, War, and Pedagogy
Public Discourse and the Artist
International Perspectives on Woolf Studies
Virginia and/or Leonard Woolf as Political Philosophers
Woolf and Postcolonial Studies
Animals and Agency
(MLA panel arranged by the Association for the Study of Literature

New Orleans, July 24-25, 2007
ATHE's Religion and Theatre Focus Group will open its preconference with a
roundtable entitled "The Role of Religious Performance in Rebuilding
Communities—Past and Present." Participants will offer a 5-10 minute
presentation on a particular instance when religious performance played a
role in rebuilding or regenerating community. Participants will then engage
in a moderate discussion and Q&A with all preconference attendees.
