CALL FOR PAPERS FOR RHETORICA IN MOTION II:  FEMINIST RHETORICAL METHODS AND METHODOLOGIES

We invite article submissions for a special topics issue of Women in French Studies (2024) to explore work created by confined women and work that represents confined women, from the early modern period to the present-day. The special issue will explore how the confinement of women as depicted in fictional and non-fictional texts (in any media) informs, reflects and interrogates gendered conditions of existence. How have confined women been represented in literature, film and art? What kind of thinking or writing is produced by women out of conditions of confinement? What are the impacts of confinement on creative production? How does physical confinement change how we consume texts? 

Abstract

This session deals with American Literature from 1865 to 1945, exploring a wide variety of topics, including race and ethnicity, gender and sexuality, decoloniality, spirituality, class and power dynamics, environmental issues, and pedagogical and digital innovations in American literature and culture.

Historical Fictions Research Network Online Conference
(17 to 19 February 2023, Zoom)

The Historical Fictions Research Network (see https://historicalfictionsresearch.org/) aims to create a place for the discussion of all aspects of the construction of the historical narrative. The focus of the conference is the way we construct history, the narratives and fictions people assemble and how. We welcome both academic and practitioner presentations.

The sixth MARS symposium looks towards a re-consideration of medieval and Renaissance genres of literature, with an emphasis on problematic or borderline cases where a given text belonging to a particular genre is questionable, or where problems are caused by various interpretations or definitions of the genre itself. Those genres can be roughly divided into two groups. One of them would consist of the genres that are often associated with the long period extending approximately between the years 700 and 1700, even though not all of them originate from that epoch, or are limited by it.

Resources for American Literary Study, a journal of archival and bibliographical scholarship in American literature, invites submissions for our upcoming 2022 issue. Covering all periods of American literature, RALS welcomes both traditional and digital approaches to archival and bibliographical analysis. 

Founded in 1971, RALS remains the only major scholarly periodical of its kind. Each issue includes, in addition to archival and bibliographical research, related book reviews and a unique “Prospects” essay that identifies new directions in the study of major authors. Our editorial board consists of leading scholars from an array of fields and subfields in American literary study.

This panel will invite faculty that teach in Professional and STEM writing to discuss their career trajectory. The panel is intended for graduate students seeking to diversify their teaching portfolios, graduates contemplating new career paths, department administrators looking to develop new curricula and courses, and faculty interested in different approaches to writing instruction. It will ask participants to discuss opportunities and challenges they have seen both in the institutional identity of these writing courses and in their subject matter and student body. More specifically, the panel will address the relationship between English departments, literature courses, freshman composition, and these vocational writing courses.
