Graduate Student Caucus Paper Prize
Call for Papers: Article-length versions of graduate student papers presented at any of the panels at the 2005 Boston Northeast Modern Language Association (NEMLA) conference.

Each year, NEMLA awards an annual prize to the best article-length version of a graduate student paper presented at any of the convention's sections. The winning paper, as determined by a committee of peers, will be published in the NEMLA journal Modern Language Studies.

The submission deadline for the 2006 Graduate Student Caucus Paper Prize is December 15, 2005.

The Ecocritical Colonization of Postcolonialism

This panel seeks to continue the conversation between postcolonial theory and
ecocriticism. Both theoretical discussions of postcolonial ecocriticism and
case studies of ecological imperialism in postcolonial literature are welcome.

Testimonial Modernism

The deadline for interdisciplinary workshop proposals for "Attending to Early Modern Women--and Men" has been extended to October 6, 2005. We hope you are drafting a proposal!

While the keynote address and plenary speakers will concentrate on what
scholars of early modern women can learn from considering men and
masculinity, workshops may consider masculinity or CONTINUE PAST CONVERSATIONS ABOUT WOMEN AND GENDER. Workshops should, however, focus
on one of the plenary topics themselves: theorizing gender, childhood,
violence, and pedagogies.

Proposals should be postmarked OCTOBER 6, 2005. The conference convenes in College Park, MD, November 9-11, 2006.

eighteenth century exploration narratives. Book history research continues
to be concerned with the physical properties of books and the material
conditions of their production, yet the field has expanded in recent years
to embrace the entire range of social conditions that may have influenced
