In most cultures the figure of the ghost stands for a forceful=20
separation of past and present. Some cultures integrate the ghost=20
figure into the present in order to provide a sense of continuity. In=20
literature and film the ghost motif has been directly associated with=20
particular cultural meanings, but has also been used as a plot element=20=

UK. This three-day conference to be held at the University of
Hertfordshire, Hatfield offers a forum to scholars and students from a
variety of disciplines whose research is concerned with The "Edwardian"
period in its broadest sense. The aim of the event is threefold: to review
this often overlooked decade, to bring together a variety of approaches to
important texts, personalities, themes and events and to include
discussion of key issues including definition of the term "Edwardian." The
scope of the conference encompasses literature, journalism, drama, the

The Indian Institute of World Literature invites articles in about 2000 words for inclusion in a volume on "Existentialism in Twentieth Century American Fiction", edited by Prof.Ganesan Balakrishnan, to be published in June 2006. The book will highlight the traces of Existentialism in the works of writers of the 'lost generation' like Ernest Hemingway,John Dos Passos,Scott Fitzgerald, and William Faulkner.However, the boundaries are not very rigid -
any major Post-War era American novelist with an Existentialist outlook upon life will also be
considered. Articles may be typed/printed on one side of A4 size paper may be sent by Courier/Ordinary Mail to the following address before 02/28/2006

Much of the criticism of enhancement technologies has focused on the
potential for increased discrimination against women, people of color,
the poor, the differently enabled, or "unenhanced" humans. Some
bioethicists have proposed a global treaty to ban enhancement
technologies as "crimes against humanity."
