Scholars in Progress is seeking speakers for our next session on March 9, 2021!
Our session will focus on how to make the most of a virtual conference, timed specifically to help graduate students get the most out of the NCSA virtual conference March 11-13. We are hoping to structure the session around lightning talks where each speaker will present for 5-10 minutes before taking questions from participants.
The 4th International Conference on Research in Humanities and Social Sciences, happening on the 7th– 9th May 2021, Milan, Italy is the premier forum for the presentation of new advances and research results in education theory and practice.
This conference is a prestigious event, organized to provide an international platform for academicians, researchers, managers, industrial participants, and students to share their research findings with global experts. All full paper/abstract submissions will be peer-reviewed and evaluated based on originality, technical and/or research depth, accuracy and relevance to conference theme and topics.
Sociology and Anthropology
Essays are invited for a forthcoming special issue of the Journal of World Literature on the theme of World Literature in and for Pandemic Times. Essays can discuss works that are set in plagues or epidemics (whether Covid-19 or earlier epidemics, real or fictional), or can discuss how we ourselves read under our current circumstances of lockdowns, widespread mortality, and the resulting social and economic disruptions.
We hereby invite proposals of original articles related to the general theme of Cultural Intertexts, an academic journal of Literature and Cultural Studies, ISSN 2393-0624, E-ISSN 2393-1078.
The editors will consider for publication papers which tackle strategies of representation and of (inter)textual construction emerging from the dialogic relation between:
- literature and the historical and cultural context of text production;
- distribution and consumption;
- literature and other arts (music, film, visual arts, etc.) or sciences (linguistics, psycholinguistics, psychology, history, sociology and political sciences, internet and new technologies, etc.);

In this special issue of Alluvium, the Contemporary Theoretical Network (Ctrl Network) invites submissions on the topic of futurity in crisis.
We invite papers for a proposed session on “Big Data & Social Media in Southeast Asia” for the 2022
Modern Language Association conference (6-9 January). This session is sponsored by the MLA’s
Southeast Asia and Southeast Asia Diasporic forum.
The Television Studies session is open to all paper proposals that explore some aspect of Television Studies. Possible topics for proposals include: the analysis of a particular television show, explorations of the social functions of television, and the relationship between television shows and their audiences. We are also particularly interested in paper proposals that relate to the conference theme "City of God, City of Destruction."
The conference will be held in Las Vegas, Nevada between Thursday, November 11 and Sunday, November 14, at the Sahara Las Vegas Hotel. This session is currently scheduled to be held in-person.

The Comparative Literature and Cultural Studies Renaissance/Early Modern forum of the MLA invites proposals for a guaranteed roundtable at MLA 2022 (Washington, D.C., 6-9 January). Thus far, there has been little work at the intersection of early modern critical race and trans studies. We invite new and in progress work to be presented in 5-8 minute talks. MLA 2022 (January 6-9, Washington, DC): "Community-Engaged Pedagogies in the Literature Classroom," an official panel for the Forum on the Teaching of Literature. Panelists discuss teaching literature with community-engaged pedagogies. As they engage with content, students learn about social justice and broaden career paths. Educators discuss balancing experience and content, navigating power differentials, and establishing reciprocal partnerships.

The CLCS Renaissance/Early Modern forum of the MLA invites paper proposals for a guaranteed session at MLA 2022 (Washington, D.C., 6-9 January 2022). Colloquia Humanistica is the interdisciplinary journal of humanities of the Institute of Slavic Studies of the Polish Academy of Sciences. Our aim is to introduce a variety of perspectives in discussing contemporary issues. This session is open to any proposal that explores the intersection of literature and some other art. However, in accordance with the conference theme "City of God, City of Destruction," we welcome papers that explore the cross-sections between literature and the other arts in connection to issues of the urban, cityscapes, the postmodern, noir, gothic, or religious spaces or architecture, or religious or spiritual painting or sculpture.

Henry James scholarship has hesitated to engage with the challenges and opportunities presented by the rich and proliferating constellation of thought that is Trans Studies. How might the question of transgender revise, reinvigorate or transform our understanding of James’s writing, and / or of James as a biographical subject?
We welcome proposals addressing any aspect of the topic. Possible approaches might include:
- Transgender subjects in James’s fictional worlds and nonfiction texts
- Transgender and subjectless queer critique

The Film Education Journal (FEJ) is the world’s only publication committed to exploring how teachers and other educators work with film, and to involving other participants – policymakers, academics, researchers, cultural agencies and film-makers themselves – in that conversation. The journal publishes a range of article types, aimed at reaching our diverse academic and practitioner audience. FEJ welcomes submissions for its eighth edition (to be published in November 2021). Marx and Engels famously use the term lumpenproletariat to describe “that passively rotting mass thrown off by the lowest layers of old society.” The concept suggests that the most marginal are not part of the revolutionary class but are in fact more likely to function as a “bribed tool of reactionary intrigue.” As Raphael Samuel noted, the word came to function as an “unproblematic term of abuse” in early twentieth-century Communist discourse, suggesting a relation between political unreliability and moral failings. The precarious were not merely represented as a threat to radical movements but as personally contemptible in ways that drew on conservative ideas of the undeserving poor.
