The Katherine Anne Porter Society is pleased to invite submissions for our annual Graduate Student Paper Award. Interested applicants should submit an article-length (15-25 page) paper on any Katherine Anne Porter topic. The winner, who will be announced on December 1, 2021, will be invited to present a shortened form of the paper at the annual Katherine Anne Porter Society Session at the American Literature Association Conference and will be featured in an article of the Katherine Anne Porter Society Newsletter. this to report that academic Journal "Ticontre. Teoria Testo Traduzione" has opened a new call for paper for its three permanent sections: Essays, a miscellaneous collection of academic articles on different topics; Translation Theory and Practice, devoted to papers on Translation Studies as well as to the publication of original translations of literary texts (both poetry and prose), accompanied by a critical commentary; Reprints, presenting works that, however pivotal for the scientific community and the history of Literary Studies, have never been translated into Italian or are no longer available in their first printed editions.

PLL (Papers on Language and Literature) invites reviews of current books on topics relevant to independent, avant-garde, experimental and art film for publication in PLL’s upcoming special issue (vol. 57) due in 2021.

As an Associate Organization of the Renaissance Society of America, RCSC will be sponsoring one session at next year’s RSA conference in Dublin (7–10 April 2021). We seek proposals for complete panels on any subject of the Renaissance world. Please see the details below about what is expected to propose a panel, or consult the RSA conference website. Per RSA rules, graduate students are permitted on panels, but they must be within 1-2 years of defending their dissertations.

Lessons from the Pandemic: Trauma-Informed Approaches to College, Crisis, Change

Chapter proposals are invited for the edited book Transgender Literary Theory and Criticism. We are seeking chapters that show how transgender theory can provide novel insights for developing literary theory and conducting literary criticism, as well as chapters that analyze specific literary works that explore transgender identity and experience from the perspectives of a variety of literary theories. The proliferation of essays on the essay is evidence of this literary form’s provocative nature. The essay compels us to reflect on what this art form “is,” while it avoids easy classification. In “She: Portrait of the Essay as a Warm Body,” Cynthia Ozick invites us to think of the essay not so much as a genre, but rather as a gender: “She is too fluid or too elusive to be a category... she is the protagonist, the secret self's personification…why should we not call her she?”

In response to debates considering the relationship between illness and narrative, and the extent to which these concepts can be seen as mutually constitutive, this issue of On_Culture seeks to gather new approaches and critical perspectives to the intricate relationship between narrative and illness. We welcome (inter)disciplinary contributions addressing the concepts’ entanglement on an individual, societal, and global level.
About the Conference
The social exclusion, economic marginalization and cultural subjugation of Indigenous people are pervasive in all regions across the globe due to colonialism and neocolonialism. Even today, Indigenous people continue to struggle to protect their rights to culture, community, heritage, and land. This international conference on Indigenous Studies will allow like-minded researchers, scholars and academicians to explore new avenues in Indigenous Studies. The conference will enable participants to discuss current issues within Indigenous Studies while emphasizing new ways to empower and work collaboratively with Indigenous communities around the world.
Topic Areas
We live in a deeply interconnected world. The set of processes involved in bringing about global interconnectedness and the effect of this interconnectedness on human lives across the world is called globalization. Globalization impacts all spheres of life, including the political, economic and the cultural. However, they are closely related and hence a multidimensional approachis required to understand this complex phenomenon. This issue will focus on cultural globalization, as it is closest to the humanities and because the economic and political effects invariably impact the cultural too.
In his recent release Pandemic! Covid-19 Shakes the World, Slavoj Zizek speculates that “the lines that separate us from barbarism are drawn more and more clearly. One of the signs of civilization today is the growing perception that continuing the various wars that circle the globe as totally crazy and meaningless.

56th International Congress on Medieval Studies
(May 13-15, 2021), Kalamazoo, Michigan
This retrospective roundtable will celebrate the life and medievalist work of Christopher Tolkien—the “Last Inkling”—who died on 16 January 2020, at the age of 95.
The proposed interdisciplinary panel examines the rich relationship of music and the literary works within various European literatures focusing primarily on the period from mid-nineteenth to the twentieth century, but presentations within a broader time frame will also be considered. We invite a wide range of papers investigating the author’s technique of representing music in literature, examining aesthetic, historical and cultural interactions between music and literature, audience and performers, as well as the relationship between the author and the composer, in real or fictional form.

The MLA Press published Approaches to Teaching Atwood’s The Handmaid’s Tale and Other Works in 1996. Now the press is seeking contributions for a new volume to explore both the teaching of Atwood’s publications since that time and 21st-century approaches to her earlier works, such as strategies for teaching The Handmaid’s Tale that draw on the Hulu TV series, the graphic novel, and/or The Testaments.
