Tying Down Almodovar: new perspectives on the cinema of Pedro Almodovar

Edited by Tamar Jeffers McDonald and John Mercer

Introduction
Pedro Almodovar is now widely recognised as the most famous and successful
Spanish film director since Bunuel. With a career spanning 30 years and
including a body of work in excess of 25 films, the time seems ripe for a
comprehensive appraisal of his career, thematic themes and concerns and
his significance both within academic discourse around cinema, within
Spanish culture and as one of the key contemporary directors of
international cinema.

Essays needed for a scholarly book collection: *The Space of Lewis
Carroll's Wonderland*

I am seeking papers on Lewis Carroll's Wonderland from a variety of
theoretical perspectives, especially arguments that engage with spatial
and cultural ideas/implications.

SWCA 2006 Call For Proposals
 
The Southeastern Writing Center Association is pleased to announce an early call for proposals for its 2006 annual conference, February 16-18: "Let's Research: Gathering Evidence to Support Writing Center Work." Co-hosted by the University of North Carolina and Duke University, the conference venue is at the historic Carolina Inn in Chapel Hill. Neal Lerner, co-editor of the Writing Center Journal and co-author of The Allyn and Bacon Guide to Peer Tutoring, is the keynote speaker.
 

Call for Papers: Special issue on Margaret Millar, _Clues: A Journal of Detection_

Published quarterly, the peer-reviewed _CLUES: A Journal of Detection_ welcomes scholarly articles on all aspects of mystery and detective material in print, television, and film without limit to period or country covered. The spring 2007 issue will focus on author and screenwriter Margaret Millar (Edgar winner, _Beast in View_; MWA Grand Master; wife of author Ross Macdonald).

Call for Paper Proposals for Proposed Panel "Gender, Sexuality and Time in
Renaissance England" at the Renaissance Society of America's 2006 meeting in
San Francisco
Recently, feminist and queer theorists have attempted to reconsider the
politics of time. Most of these critical interventions, however, have been based
in 19th and 20th-century understandings of time. This panel will consider
intersections of gender, sexuality and time in 16th and 17th-century England
in an effort to add an early modern perspective to some of these discussions.
Papers on particular texts, authors and genres, as well as broader
explorations of temporal and historical thinking and practices are all welcome.

Call for Papers: Vagantes Graduate Medieval Conference

VAGANTES is an annual, travelling conference for graduate students
studying any aspect of the Middle Ages. The conference was conceived
with several goals in mind, including the fostering of a sense of
community among graduate medievalists, providing exposure to an
interdisciplinary forum, and showcasing the resources of the host
institutions -- all kept within a student budget.

The 5th conference will be hosted by the Graduate Medievalists at UC
BERKELEY from March 2-5, 2006.
