On October 25, 2007 the Cartoon Research Library at the Ohio State
University, in collaboration with Project Narrative and the
Department of English, will host a one-day symposium on "Graphic
Storytelling: Academic Perspectives." The gathering will serve as a
prelude to the 2007 Festival of Cartoon Art, which runs from October
26-27, and which is this year devoted to "Graphic Storytelling" and a
celebration of the 100th birthday of Milton Caniff. For the first
time, the triennial Festival is sponsoring an academic pre-conference
in recognition of the exciting developments in academic comics
studies in recent years and the growing collaborations between comics
