Journal papers centring on the works of Nigerian poet and novelist Chin Ce are invited to supplement ongoing 2007 journal issue by the International Research Confederacy on African Literature and Culture IRCALC.

Author sought for chapter 6 of the Cultural History of Reading (Greenwood,
2007).

The Cultural History of Reading examines written documents (books,
pamphlets, treatises, plays, poems, essays etc.) that shaped, and were
shaped by, crucial cultural events throughout the world and in the United
States.

Call for Papers: Ethics and Literature

The Journal PHILOSOPHIA, Philosophical Quarterly of Israel,
published by Springer, seeks submissions for the forthcoming special
issue on Ethics and Litearture.

We are interested in articles on issues such as: relationships
between moral philosophy and literature, literature as a mode of
moral investigation, moral 'effectiveness' in literature, the
practice of ethical criticism, and similar ones.

        A conference on the Senegalese writer Cheikh Hamidou Kane will be held at
Princeton University on October 6 and 7 2006.
        Kane's work provides an exciting opportunity to inquire into the
intersections of identity, difference, and modernity, as they unfold in our
world today. Submissions on all aspects of Kane's work as well as on the
broader questions his writing and cultural engagement stimulate are welcome.
Please send paper titles and abstracts of no more than 250 words to the
email addresses listed below. The deadline for submission of abstracts is
August 15 2006.

American Medieval: American Popular Culture in Medieval Film

Depictions of the "medieval" in film often have very little to do with
medieval culture. Instead, the medieval period often becomes a
metaphor for issues, anxieties, and themes that are both modern and
culturally/nationally situated. This panel explores American
cinematic constructions of the "medieval" in an effort to discuss
medievalism in terms of American cultural studies.
