      InterCulture (ISSN 1552-5910), an Electronic Journal published by Florida State University's Interdisciplinary Program in the Humanities, is seeking papers for its Spring 2006 issue. Friedrich Nietzsche is well known for his influence on multiple disciplines in the modern era, for his forward looking philosophy, and also for his conception of culture, cultivation, bildung.

Abstracts are invited for the Short Fiction Session of the South Central
Modern Language Association meeting which will take place in Fort Worth,
Texas, 28-30 October 2006.

"Revolutionizing Short Fiction: Kate Chopin, Katherine Mansfield, and
Katherine Anne Porter"

This session invites papers exploring any of the revolutionary and
revolutionizing aspects of the short fiction of Kate Chopin, Katherine
Mansfield, and/or Katherine Anne Porter. Four papers will be accepted for
this panel.

Some aspects of "revolution" which might be explored include but are not
limited to the:

The theme of the "SymPo(e)sium," a special session of the 60th Rocky
Mountain Modern Language Association Annual Conference, to be held in
Tucson, Arizona, October 12-14, 2006, will be "Poe and . . . ." The
session organizer would welcome submissions of 250-500 word abstracts or
completed papers on topics relating to Edgar Allan Poe's literary
influence. Papers might explore topics relating to Poe's influence on
another writer or creative artist, Poe's influence on a contemporary
or on a writer or artist who flourished after Poe's time, Poe's
influence on an American or other-than-American writer or artist.

SCIENCE FICTION, FANTASY AND MEDIA; OH MY! (05/31/06; World Science
Fiction Convention; 8/23/06 â€" 8/26/06)

The World Science Fiction Society is currently inviting papers for the
academic track of the 2006 World Science Fiction Convention, otherwise
known as Worldcon. This year’s Worldcon will be held in Los Angeles,
California at the Anaheim Convention Center from Wednesday August 23 -
Sunday August 27 and is called L.A.con IV.

Submissions are invited for a collection of essays analyzing the novels =
=3D
and short stories of black British author Zadie Smith. The main focus of =
=3D
the collection will be to explore the various ways Smith approaches =3D
issues of race, identity, and post colonialism.=3D20

Suggested topics for discussion include:

Black British/British identity in a global community

Exploring Biracial identity in a British context

Interracial relationships

The utopian view of "race mixing"

A comparative view of post colonialism: immigrant vs. British born =3D
children

Cultural alienation and displacement
