As we continue the study of the Anthropocene and society’s intersections with nature, this collection searches for essays on women’s writing, Anthropocene, and futurism. This anthology’s scope will be broad, with a focus on analysis of women writers, society, and nature in the past, present, and future.
Submissions are now open for the second issue of The Journal of Fantasy and Fan Cultures. Submissions are due December 1, 2021.
The topic of the second issue is an open one, and any essays on fantasy and fan cultures (broadly construed) will be considered.
You may submit once per issue for each category (creative non-fiction and academic essays). We are not interested in publishing fan fiction or poetry.
Whether from health crisis, family isolation, or governmental-social prejudice, care has always been an invaluable resource in queer communities, whether physical, psychological, or spiritual. This care manifests not only in physical forms, such as providing food and medicine, shelter for queer homeless populations, and access to health care, but also in the ability to connect with new modes of family and to fight in the broader struggle for queer rights and liberation. However, this care can become disrupted due to biases present within the mainstream queer community, such against queer people of color, queer women and gender non-conforming people, and queer people with disabilities.
This call is for our book recommendation section.for the academic blog (ISSN 2660-8839, https://popmec.hypotheses.org) of the PopMeC Association for US Popular Culture Studies.
We aim at recommending books that we find relevant in the realm of the representation of the US, as well as in the related cultural studies. We’d like to share books that we found inspiring, useful, and engaging, delving into culturally relevant topics, popular culture products, public reception, cultural politics, minority/discriminated groups’ representation, collective imaginaries fueled by cinema, music, comics, TV series, public performances, and whatnot.

In the wake of COVID, some workers have been deemed essential, forced to put their lives at risk to keep the market moving or care for those with the means to stay off the frontlines. While these jobs may be crucial, those who perform them are frequently treated as exchangeable.Yet as workers have become interchangeable, a fantastical contrast has emerged in the form of the non-fungible token (NFT): at the same time that stable employment and livable wages have been cut in the interest of profit, digital creations become irreplaceable tokens of payment. The catastrophic impact of the pandemic shows which systems of exchange are malleable or fluid and which remain brittle or stagnant.

In the fourth issue of the online journal In Spatele Blocului (Romanian)/Behind the Block (www.inspateleblocului.ro), we accept papers and art that have to do with any of these topics or other themes related to the study of the ethical and humanism. NeMLA Annual Convention - Baltimore, MD - 10-13 March, 2022
How does one resist the systems of subjugation that prey on the marginalized and seek to dissolve and consume them within this white supremacist capitalist imperialist patriarchy? While for some resistance takes the form of confrontation and battle, for Black feminist thinkers like bell hooks and Audre Lorde, resistance comes in the form of the practice of love. It is in the embrace of the erotic, of initiating the quest of mutual self-fulfillment, in seeking value in the relationships we have with each other, that we resist. In other words, for hooks and Lorde, we resist through care.

The tern Genocide was coined by Raphael Lemkin in 1944, in a context heavily influenced by the events of the Jewish Holocaust. The parameters of Genocide, and its legal consequences were gathered in the Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide that recognizes that the following are factors that take place in a genocide:
-Killing members of the group
-Causing serious bodily or mental harm to members of the group
-Deliberately inflicting on the group conditions of life calculated to bring physical destruction in whole or in part
-Imposing measures intended to prevent births within the group
-Forcibly transferring children of the group to another group
