The Cultural History of Reading (forthcoming from Greenwood Press, 2007)
seeks contributors to its American Literature Volume, particularly authors
interested in the literature and culture of The American Revolution, the
Civil War, and the late 20th-early 21st centuries (1960-present)..

The volume examines written documents (books, pamphlets, treatises, plays,
poems, essays etc.) that shaped, and were shaped by, crucial cultural
events throughout the world and in the United States.

For the newly merged magazine-format journal _DoubleTake/Points of
Entry_, Fall 2005 and Spring 2006 issues, the editors are interested in
reported nonfiction (a.k.a., literary journalism, creative nonfiction,
literature of fact, literature of reality, magazine feature) that
present compelling, insightful stories that open windows onto the human
experience and act as catalysts for community-service efforts. We are
interested in reported narrative that works to present many points of
entry into human experience, encouraging a kind of serious, patient
consideration of the perspectives, visions, and concerns of others. In
the words of Robert Coles, the work we publish "pays the closest

Authors are sought for a few remaining chapters of the Europe volume of the
Encyclopedia of World Popular Culture, a six-volume set under contract with
the Greenwood Publishing Group.

Mississippi Quarterly invites submissions for a special issue on
American Indian literatures and cultures in the South to be published
late in 2006. Critical and historical essays on any genre or period will
be considered.

Completed essays of no more than 10,000 words should be submitted by
Jan. 30, 2006.

Email submissions (Microsoft Word or Richtext only) are preferred.
Essays should follow the MLA Handbook (6th ed.).
