We invite submissions for a special session at the 2026 PAMLA meeting (Seattle, WA; November 12-15, 2026) on “Biblical and Middle Eastern Literatures.” All papers will be allotted about 20 minutes. Papers must be presented in person.

Genre has traditionally been seen as a framework or series of frameworks for organizing texts (and other artworks) so they may be analyzed with some degree of precision, yet the meaning of the term has always been unstable. Disagreements arise around specific classifications, and the term has often been redefined or simply deployed, without explanation, in different ways. The novel, for instance, has been subject to numerous and diverging definitions, from (to name only a few) Gyorgy Lukacs to Mikhail Bakhtin to Ralph Rader to Priya Joshi.  Such classifications, no matter how numerous, are familiar.

The Dance and Movement Analysis Section of the American Folklore Society is looking for papers, panels, workshops, and lec/dems for the 138th AFS Annual Meeting, to be held at the Renaissance Asheville Downtown Hotel in Asheville, North Carolina from October 27–31, 2026. Deadline is April 6, 2026 for emailing us with ideas and questions, at dance.section@afsnet.org.

I am writing to invite you to consider submitting a chapter proposal for consideration to be included in The American Research Handbook on Diversity, Equity & Inclusion, an edited scholarly volume that examines the evolving role of diversity, equity, and inclusion within American democracy and educational institutions.  

I have been invited to serve as the section editor for The White Rural Experience. This section seeks rigorous, thoughtful, and evidence-based analyses that examine how rural white communities engage with, experience, interpret, or resist DEI discourse and policy across educational, civic, cultural, and economic contexts.

In “Narrating the Past,” British historian Alun Munslow defines “history as a ‘literature of fact’” (23), “an aesthetic undertaking” (17), and a “storied form of knowledge” (17). Continuing the conversations related to “Times and Places,” to be held at the 17th International Robert Graves Conference in Palma, Mallorca, Spain (July 2026), this panel deliberates Graves’s and his literary associates’ historical, geographic, and historiographic legacies. 

This is the last call to submit abstracts for the Bodies of Culture: Somaesthetic Explorations conference, taking place at Florida Atlantic University on November 6–7, 2026.

Abstract submission deadline: August 18, 2026

We welcome proposals from scholars and practitioners across the humanities, social sciences, medical humanities, and the arts. Selected papers may be considered for publication in The Journal of Somaesthetics or an edited volume in Brill's Studies in Somaesthetics series.

Edited by author and Public Humanities Lecturer Ed Simon, PRoB is a home for engaged, creative, and interdisciplinary cultural criticism and analysis across the humanities. The tone of the publication is similar to other para-academic publications intended for both specialists and a general audience. Currently we are particularly interested in analysis that intersects with breaking news that can be produced by scholars quickly.

Dreaming Our Futures, the 3rd Annual Trans* Association of Ireland Symposium, will take place at Mary Immaculate College, Limerick on November 20 and 21st 2026.

Our keynote speaker is poet and activist-scholar, Dr Nat Raha. Dr Raha’s work focuses on transfeminism, LGBTQ+ genders and sexualities, practices and collectives of care and social reproduction, racial capitalism and decolonization, and critical theory. Her work spans across poetry, print cultures, art, politics, liberation movements and hi(r)story. She is the co-author of Trans Femme Futures: Abolitionist Ethics for Transfeminist Worlds (2024) with Mijke van der Drift. 

The symposium will be free to attend virtually and in-person.

The American Literature Association will hold a symposium on “Music and the American Literary Imagination” in Nashville, TN (January 28-30, 2027), and the Robert Frost Society seeks proposals for papers on Frost and music. Topics might include 

-new readings of Frost poems explicitly about music

-Frost’s interest in musical notation, meter, intonation, voice, pitch, timbre

-Frost's uses of musical forms

-Frost’s poems about thrushes, ovenbirds, brooks, and other musicians of the nonhuman world

Penn State will host the Global Asias 8 Conference in spring 2027. Sponsored by the Global Asias Initiative (GAI) and the Department of Asian Studies, GA8 complements the work of the award-winning journal Verge: Studies in Global Asias and the Global Asias: Method, Architecture, Praxis book series. By bringing into relation work in Asian studies, Asian American studies, and Asian diaspora studies, these Global Asias projects cover Asia and its diasporas, East to West, across and around the Pacific, from a variety of humanistic perspectives—anthropology, art history, literature, history, sociology, and political science—to develop comparative analyses that recognize Asia’s place(s) in the development of global culture and history.

By the time he passed away at the age of 90, British filmmaker Peter Watkins had cemented his legacy as one of the preeminent media scholars of the late-20th and early 21st centuries. Over the course of eight decades, Watkins’ oeuvre represented unrelenting interventions in an industry that was repeatedly acquiescing to the profit motive. Among the themes explored in the director’s work are war (The War Game) and revolution (La Commune). Within these films, his most common approach was the pseudo-documentary. This format helped Watkins combat what he viewed as the passivity that was the dominant mode of discourse in media.

Franklin Evans Review: A Peer-Reviewed, Refereed Journal of Student Leadership, Scholarship, and Creative Expression.

The journal provides an international platform for emerging scholars, leaders, writers, artists, and creators whose work examines leadership, service, innovation, identity, resilience, ethical decision-making, legacy, and positive social transformation.

The 12th International Conference on Languages, Linguistics, Translation and Literature is organized by different universities and research centers.
