Furious Flower IV Call for Proposals

    Words. Worlds. Abundance. 

The Furious Flower Poetry Center at James Madison University invites proposals for papers, panels, and performances that engage the global histories, aspirations, and forms of Black poetry. Since our groundbreaking 1994 gathering, the Center has convened a series of decade-defining conferences that explore and generate significant developments within Black poetic activity and scholarship.

With a canonical perspective and long historical memory, we have, in the intervening decades, curated, catalogued, and nurtured Black poetic activity in its plural manifestations as it surged and moved from the margins to eminence.

CALL FOR APPLICATIONS: Lewis-Reynolds-Smith Founders Fellowship

Each year the Hemingway Society accepts applications for its Lewis-Reynolds-Smith Founders Fellowship grant, and typically makes two awards of $1,000 each to support the development of a Hemingway-related project. Preference is given to enrolled graduate students, independent scholars, or recent recipients of doctorate degrees. Applications are due by Friday, March 1, 2024. Winners will be announced at the end of March.

The Journal of Anime and Manga Studies is a double-blind peer reviewed, open-access journal published by the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. JAMS is dedicated to publishing scholarly works concerning anime, manga, cosplay, and the fandom surrounding these areas. As an open-access journal, JAMS aims to reach an audience of scholars both inside and outside the academe, encouraging public engagement through the digital humanities.

“ Tell all the truth but tell it slant —”

Poems that explore the associations and connections of a unique mind. The poet’s eye. A perspective that only the individual could conjure. Worlds, experiences, thoughts, and events cast in a new and distinct light. Poems that focus on the strength of voice and personality. Poems that tinker with language, imagery, and unfamiliarity. We want a peek behind the curtain, to see how the poet sees.
