General Issue:

HyperRhiz, the peer-reviewed new media satellite site of Rhizomes:
Cultural Studies in Emerging Knowledges, is seeking web-based
multimedia contributions for its first issue. HyperRhiz affirms and
extends the mandate of Rhizomes, which is to publish peer-reviewed
works based on or responding to Deleuzian analyses of culture.

The format of contributions may include:

hypertextual presentations/interpretations of critical theory
interactive web installations
rich media documentation of electronic projects
web-based interactive games
animated/code poetry/fiction
web-enabled video documentary

Deadline for Paper/Panel Proposals: November 1, 2005.

The 1960s was one of the most tumultuous decades of the Twentieth Century,
introducing new forms of American Culture, as well as changing existing
forms. This area welcomes explorations of any aspect of the decade, from
civil rights to platform shoes. Contributions from interdisciplinary fields
as well as single disciplines are encouraged.

Please send 100-150 word abstracts in WORD by email to

South Park and Popular Culture. Contributions are invited for a collection
of academic essays on the animated program, South Park. Possible topics
include, but are not limited to, South Park and historical, political, and
televisual context; representations of race, gender, sexual orientation,
class, or disability; constructions of childhood and parenthood; viewership
practices; indecency and pornography; the carnivalesque; South Park and the
academy; South Park and youth culture. 400-word proposals and C.V.s should

Editor is seeking contributions for an edited volume focusing on
representations of intelligence in popular television. The editor is
working closely with a publisher that has conveyed strong interest in
this project.

The book addresses the issue of the constructions of intelligence and
intellectuality in popular television and the social/cultural
implications of those constructions.

---Call for SubmissionsRe-Thinking Ephemera in the Classroom and BeyondSeeking proposals for a volume of essays tentatively entitled Re-ThinkingEphemera in the Classroom and Beyond. The editors are looking for 5-6,000word manuscripts to fill the roughly ten-essay volume. By presenting a widerange of definitions and theoretical perspectives as well as a variety ofpedagogical strategies and approaches for teaching and exploring notions ofearly modern ephemera, contributors will seek to address the following kindsof questions.· What do we mean by ephemera?

We invite submissions for a forthcoming book entitled "Multicultural
Literature and the New Educational Accountability: Challenges and
Opportunities." This book will highlight ways in which classroom teachers
and teacher educators continue to utilize multicultural children's and
young adult literature while addressing local, state and national
standards. Moreover, contributors to the volume will examine how teachers
balance the pressure for accountability (i.e., success on high-stakes
tests) with students' needs for culturally responsive pedagogy.
