16th Annual Conference on Virginia Woolf
Call for Panel Submissions: "Clothing as Boundary"

We are accepting proposals to complete a panel on Virginia Woolf and
clothing currently titled "Clothing as Boundary in the Works of Virginia
Woolf." Of special interest to us is how clothing thematizes
limits/boundaries or examines the intersection of clothing/boundary in
terms of barriers and limits both IN and OF Woolf's work.

"In Theory Lies Modernism"

This volume asks about -- and offers multiple
perspectives on -- the relationship between modernism and theory.
As the most recent modernist studies association
conference (November 3-6, 2005) made abundantly
clear, the last decade's tendency to expand the
temporal, geographical, and material boundaries
of modernism continues unabated. Yet, in a
twofold irony, this renewed vitality of modernist
studies has come at the expense of a key area of
inquiry that is both intimately linked to
modernism and largely responsible for the
rejuvenation of modernist studies: critical theory.

Call for Papers
Faulkner and Twain
A Conference Sponsored by the Center for Faulkner Studies
Southeast Missouri State University
Cape Girardeau, Missouri
October 19-21, 2006

This "Faulkner and Twain" conference invites proposals for twenty-minute
papers on any topic related to Faulkner and/or Twain. All critical
approaches, including theoretical and pedagogical, are welcomed, as well as
papers on special collections of Twain and Faulkner. We are particularly
interested in inter-textual approaches and papers treating such topics as
the river, the frontier, humor, race, and history. Proposals for organized
panels are also encouraged.

Update: "Between the Sacred and the Profane: Medieval Renaissance and Performance" (Peer-reviewed)

Baylor Journal of Theatre and Performance seeks essays for a special issue, to be guest-edited by Dr. K. Sarah-Jane Murray and Dr. Sinda K. Vanderpool. We welcome essays that explore performance in, and performative aspects of, medieval and Renaissance drama, poetry, and literature. We particularly encourage submissions exploring the relationship 'between the sacred and the profane.' Given that many medieval/Renaissance non-drama works were composed to be performed aloud, the editors will consider submissions focusing on a variety of genres. Popular performances, including non-manuscript based traditions, are also appropriate subjects.
