Second Annual Madison Graduate Student Conference in Language and Literature
"Texts, Translations, and Traditions"
April 27-29, 2006 at the University of Madison, Wisconsin

        Madlit is pleased to announce its second annual graduate student conference which seeks to bring
together graduate students from across the country as a community to share work, ideas, and insights into
professionalization. This year's theme invites a wide range of papers from various literary periods that engage
with some aspect of texts, translations and traditions. Some possible topics include:

ARM's 9th annual conference on "Mothering, Race, Culture, Ethnicity and
Class" featured a full day on Aboriginal Mothering. Truly a first! ARM
Press will be publishing a book on this topic, developed from the
conference.

The book will be edited by Jeanette Corbiere Lavell and Dawn Memee
Lavell-Harvard. (Bios included below)

We are still seeking chapters for this book, particularly in the area of
literature, popular culture, and history. As well, we are particularly
interested
in receiving submissions from perspectives other than 'North American."

Topic: The Washington and Jefferson College Review

We invite clearly written, thoughtful, researched essays that examine
aspects and types of utopias and dystopias: historical, literary,
speculative, political, etc. We are interested in everything from
communities like Old Economy, New Harmony, and Old Salem; works by authors
such as Swift, More, Butler, Orwell, Huxley, Atwood, and Le Guin; and films
like Bladerunner and Metropolis.

All submission will be acknowledged and assessed by at least four members of
the issue's board in a blind review. For more information about our journal,

T. S. Eliot Society, Call for Papers
ALA Annual Meeting, San Francisco, 2006

The T. S. Eliot Society will organize two sessions at the 2006 Annual Meeting of the American Literature Association, to be held May 25-28 at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in San Francisco. Members wishing to read papers are invited to send proposals or abstracts (between 300 and 500 words long), along with a curriculum vitae, to the President, Professor Benjamin Lockerd, Department of English, Grand Valley State University, Allendale, MI 49401. Electronic submissions are preferred and should be sent to him at lockerdb_at_gvsu.edu. Submissions must be received no later than January 15, 2006.

The American Humor panel of the Rocky Mountain Modern Language Association
invites papers on the open topic of American humor. Proposals may focus
upon fictional and nonfictional humor genres from any historical period, and
may employ and/or critique any methodological approach to the analysis of
humor.

The deadline for proposals is February 15, 2006. The 2006 RMMLA Conference
will be held in Tucson, AZ on October 12-14, 2006.
