The Journal of Festival Culture Inquiry and Analysis, explores Caribbean and /or South American Culture and Education.

Obtaining a deeper understanding of Caribbean and South American festivities, rituals, and celebratory culture informs and impacts people's lives and vice versa.

Our goal is to gain a deeper understanding of Caribbean/South American cultural practices, traditions, and heritage, and how they have changed or sustained themselves and how they influence festivals, rituals, celebrations, etc.

While not for the first time, educators are finding themselves at the center of political controversies as their pedagogies, content, and even profession is questioned, critiqued, and in some cases, banned. Also not the first occurrence, protesting has become one way targeted educators, students, and community members respond to and resist these top-down attacks. For some, these involve taking to the streets, organizing or joining protest efforts with high, public-facing visibility. For others, protests manifest as the books and content they continue to teach or the use of a student’s preferred pronouns.

This issue aims to restore much-needed scholarly attention to analog effects and other hands-on approaches to filmmaking in analog and contemporary digital cinema. Special effects have become a growing area in film studies with the rise of digital cinema since the turn of the century, sparking renewed interest across academic writing, popular culture, journalism, and fandom. Scholars such as Warren Buckland, Stephen Prince, Charlie Keil, Kristen Whissel, and Julie A. Turnock have primarily focused on the cinematic realism of CGI and its ubiquitous use in Hollywood mainstream cinema. Furthermore, as Dan North, Bob Rehak, and Michael S.

The Lamar Journal of the Humanities is an interdisciplinary journal published annually by the College of Arts and Sciences of Lamar University in Beaumont, Texas. Papers of interdisciplinary or general interest in the fields of literature, history, contemporary culture, and the fine arts are appropriate for submission. Languages accepted are English, Spanish, German, and French. Detailed studies of highly specialized topics, literary explications which do not elucidate broader historical or ideological issues, and statistical essays in the social sciences are not encouraged but will be considered. Manuscripts, normally not to exceed 6,000 words, should conform to the MLA Handbook or the Chicago Manual of Style.

PAMLA 2026 Seattle: “Our Ruling Classes: Culture, Power, Conflict”; Venue- Seattle, Washington, Nove 12-15, 2026.

This session invites papers that examine how contemporary climate fiction (cli-fi) reimagines ruling classes, leadership, and social hierarchy under conditions of ecological crisis. In line with PAMLA 2026’s theme, “Our Ruling Classes: Culture, Power, Conflict,” the panel explores how environmental breakdown reshapes the distribution of power, producing new elites and intensifying conflicts over authority, survival, and governance.

The 123rd Annual Pacific Ancient and Modern Language Association (PAMLA) Conference will take place this November in Seattle, Washington, from November 12-15.

Panel: “Electric Séance: Conjuring Between the Archive and the Machine”

The “modern” disentanglement of the realms of subject and object, culture and nature, as Bruno Latour insightfully observes in We Have Never Been Modern (1993), is most evident in the former colonies of the Global South like the Bengal Delta since the entire colonial project in these locations depended on the colonizers’ privileged access to native human bodies and the non-human nature.

International Holocaust Cinema is a planned collection edited by Dr. Elyce Rae Helford (professor of English, Middle Tennessee State University) with support from Edinburgh University Press for publication in 2027.

I seek chapters on famous or lesser-known Holocaust-themed films from diverse nations/national cinemas. Each chapter should have a specific thesis as well as attention to cultural context, production history, and/or other important elements for those interested in learning more about the film – for research, teaching, or personal interest. 

Call for Presenters: The Veterans Studies standing session examines all facets of military life and the veteran experience as exhibited in literature, theater, film, and poetry, written about or by military veterans. Of particular interest is work on the transition from military to civilian life, and the resulting cultural, social, and personal impact of this transition.

FEMSPEC publishes two issues per year and uses voluntary submissions of visual art as cover art for each issue.

Archives are not neutral: they tell stories about who counts, whose experiences are remembered, and whose are erased. For centuries, racial hierarchies have shaped the preservation of knowledge, leaving silences where Black, Indigenous, and other marginalized voices should be. Research group “Translation and Language Studies” (Faculty of Social Sciences, Arts and Humanities, Kaunas University of Technology) is organising an international conference on linguistics, discourse, media, communication, translation, cultural literacy and impact on society “Intermediality in Communication: Translation, Media, Discourse” held in Kaunas, Lithuania.

The scope of the conference includes 8 thematic sections with their own set of topics:

Linguistics. This section aims to examine the current directions in linguistic research, particularly focusing on how language interacts with different forms of media. 

Many notable comic book scholars highlight Alan Moore as one of the most ambitious writers in mainstream American and British comics. Along with writers like Grant Morrison and artists like Dave McKean, Moore was part of the so-called “British Invasion” of the American comic book industry in the 1980s, and artists of this period are credited as bringing an air of credibility as well as transforming the artistic standards of the medium. Greg Carpenter, for instance, likens the work of these artists to “Marlowe, Shakespeare, and Jonson, elevating the English language into a vehicle for poetic drama.

no-stage press invites submissions for its inaugural publication, dedicated to critical ballet studies. We seek academic articles, critical essays, and interviews that interrogate the histories, aesthetics, and power structures embedded in ballet and ballet-adjacent forms.

The theme for this year’s MMLA conference explores the relational dynamics inherent in an archive. Since Derrida’s Archive Fever, the role of the archive has been conceived as a site for both the storage and construction of memory. What is selected and how it is framed by the archival materials works both to capture memory and history and shape how something or someone should be remembered. In keeping with this theme, the permanent section for comics and graphic novels is interested in research that interrogates the intersection of comic studies and the archive.

British literature of the 1800s has a close relationship to archival forms and practices. With a boom in bureaucratic record-keeping, extensive imperial documentation, meticulous medical and legal case histories, and the development of libraries and institutional archives, Victorian literary texts frequently include, copy, or contest letters, ledgers, case files, diaries, and serialized records. By engaging with and appropriating formal aspects of “the archive,” Victorian literature often blurred the boundaries between history and literature, fact and fiction, what is real and what is constructed. But who was keeping records? And of whom?
