The Department of English and Comparative Literature at Columbia University is thrilled to host the 12th annual Post45 Graduate Symposium on March 4-6, 2027.

The Post45 Graduate Symposium seeks graduate-level works-in-progress related to post-1945 media, arts, literature, textual or visual objects, digital platforms, politics, and culture. We welcome submissions that expand our conception of objects and meaning-making post-1945 or place them in comparative, transnational, or hemispheric frames. We especially welcome contributions that foreground the importance of race, gender, class, and sexuality to post-45 studies.

Dear Colleagues,

This Special Issue of Literature will collect essays addressing the reception, influence, adaptation, or incorporation of literature from the Greco–Roman world into later theatre, film, and television. The Greeks and Romans pioneered a wide range of performed literary styles like tragic and comic drama, or epic and lyric poetry, as well as developing extensive mythic story networks and what we now recognize as formal histories, etc. Some of these works remain among the most influential and beloved writings ever produced by humanity.

Architectures of Deceit provides a timely analysis of how and why imposture has emerged as a shared media logic across cinema, television, streaming platforms, and networked culture.

The volume offers a new critical lens for examining how contemporary screen culture negotiates identity, class mobility, institutional legitimacy, technological change, and the erosion of social and public trust. It traces a trajectory from fictional impostors and narratives of real-world fraud to deceptive media infrastructures and machine-generated images.

Narrative is among the most enduring and adaptive structures of human meaning-making. Across millennia, it has evolved from oral performance and manuscript cultures to print, cinema, broadcast television, digital platforms, and now algorithmically curated streaming environments and AI-assisted compositions.

The Journal for the New Narratives in the History of Philosophy (JNNHP) invites submissions for its special on Derrick Bell and the History of Africana Philosophy, to be published in Fall 2028. Derrick Bell, the founder of Critical Race Theory, produced one of the most innovative, insightful, and transformative ideas in the 20th century. His philosophical insights continue to challenge how western liberal nations contend with questions of civil rights, human rights, immigration, policing, and education.

About the Event 

The Michigan State University (MSU) Comics Forum is a triennial gathering of scholars, creators, librarians, and fans committed to exploring comics culture. The Forum reflects MSU's sustained investment in comics as an area of research, teaching, digital humanities, and public engagement. The Forum welcomes proposals from across disciplines. All presentations must focus on the medium of comics, broadly understood — including graphic novels, serial comics, webcomics, experimental and hybrid forms, zines, and related graphic practices. 

2027 Themes 

This year's Forum invites scholarship organized around the following thematic and methodological priorities 

CFP: The medieval reception of Greek antiquity The Annual Conference of the Interdisciplinary Center for Hellenic Studies at the University of South Florida. April 22-24, 2027. Attendance is in person at the USF campus, Tampa, FL. This interdisciplinary conference will explore the reception of ancient Greek texts in the Middle Ages (roughly, 500–1400 CE). We seek contributions treating the influence of Greek texts on, e.g., medieval philosophy, theology, science, historiography, education, literature, and art. Contributions may fall into the following (non-exhaustive) categories:

In celebration of Zora Neale Hurston’s 136th birthday, the Zora Neale Hurston Society, in connection with its scholarly journal, The Zora Neale Hurston Forum, invites scholars, educators, graduate students, independent scholars, writers, artists, and interdisciplinary thinkers from around the world to participate in its 2027 International Conference.

Editors Introduction:

While John Carpenter’s Halloween catapulted the slasher subgenre to the front of popular culture, Sean S. Cunningham’s Friday the 13th (1980) cemented the formula with a higher body count and an increased focus on sex, violence, and gore. Alongside Black Christmas, The Texas Chain Saw Massacre, and Halloween, the Friday the 13th series helped establish many of the conventions that fans are now accustomed to, and its first sequel introduced an iconic killer with Jason Voorhees. The success of the original film led to a franchise comprised of twelve theatrical films as of 2026, in addition to a short film released in 2025 and a 2026 television series.
