The Graduate English Students' Association in the University of Virginia's
Department of English would like to invite submissions to our annual
conference, to be held from April 5th to April 7th, 2007.
This conference invites papers that examine the relationship between texts
and the practice of improvisation. Creative works inevitably involve
improvisations of various kinds in their dealings with previous genre
categories, innovations within the formal boundaries of their media, and
even gaps between their own expectations and the end product. How do texts
register these dynamics through moments of improvisation? Is improvisation

Papers are invited for a special session on horror film for this year's
RMMLA Convention in Calgary, Alberta. All submissions will be
considered; papers may treat any of the horror subgenres (slasher films,
gothic horror, serial killer films, zombie films, etc.) or take any
theoretical approach to horror film.=20

Please submit a 250-word abstract along with a one-page CV or brief
biographical statement no later than February 27th, 2007. Also indicate
whether your presentation will require AV equipment. Accepted
presenters will need to be current in their RMMLA dues by 04-01-07. =20

inter-disciplinary print publication - The Journal of Horror Studies, which
will be published by Intellect Books.
There is a rolling deadline for submissions to the journal, the first issue
is due in Autumn 2007.
We have received a strong positive response to our initial call for papers
and a number of contributions are currently under consideration. The
editors will be considering submissions for inclusion across the first
volume, but to be considered for inclusion in the first issue we need to
receive proposals/abstracts by February 14th.
