        The Popular Literary Landscapes panel of the 2007
Mid-Atlantic Popular Culture/American Culture Association Conference
welcomes abstracts of papers (250 words) that discuss literary
descriptions/treatments of American landscapes. The descriptions may
be factual or fictional, in poetry or prose. The focus may be on
land or seascape, city or rural. The chair is open to a wide variety
of critical approaches, but requires that the choice and treatment of
subject matter establish a connection between description and the
cultural ideals that give it design and purpose.

        Choices of AV equipment are limited to DVD/VCR/monitor/audio
cassette player/carousel/overhead projector/screen.

This is a general call for papers for the SW/Texas Regional Conference of
the American/Popular Culture Association. This year again the conference
will be in Albq over Presidents Weekend in February. I am calling for any
and all papers relating to Gender in any form. Join your peers in Ablq to
discuss the most cutting edge philosophies on Gender communication,
dynamics, interpersonal relationships, and anything else that you may want

Mosaic invites submissions for a special issue on "Sound". The
deadline for submissions is October 15, 2007.

Mosaic is interested in new interdisciplinary work in literature
(theatre, film), and/or in literary and critical theory that engages
sound by way of exploring such topics as: recording, listening,
improvisation, perception, resonance, rhythm, music, new media, multi-
mediality, aurality, acoustics, disability, noise, voice, speech,
breath, echo, and the tympanic.

Composition in the Freeware Age:

Cauda Pavonis: Studies in Hermeticism seeks scholarly articles for
presentation at a special session of the 2008 Renaissance Society of
America (RSA) Conference. The session, =93Applications of Hermetic and
Alchemical Studies,=94 is sponsored by Cauda Pavonis, an associate
organization of the RSA. The Fifty-Fourth Annual Conference of the
RSA will be held April 3-5, 2008 in Chicago, Illinois. The
conference will represent the fourth successive year of Cauda Pavonis
at RSA.

NEMLA in Buffalo, November 2007:

This panel invites a discussion of twentieth century
American women writers whose work can be considered
avant-garde, but whose work may challenge current
definitions of the avant-garde (e.g. Peter Bürger's).
Whether they have not been considered as members of
the "historical avant-garde" because of time of
writing, or for formal or cultural reasons, including
limited notions of "modernism" and "postmodernism,"
this panel seeks to question: 1. How definitions of
the avant-garde may serve to exclude experimental
female writers, and 2., Whether an avant-garde is
still possible.
