CFP: Risk, Security, Anxiety in 21st Century Literature (3/23/07; MLA '07)
Proposed session for MLA 2007 in Chicago: Risk, Security, Anxiety in
21^st -Century Literature
This proposed special session will investigate developments in narrative
that respond to the uncertain times in which we live. In the face of
global violence, economic stratification, debt, environmental crisis,
technological innovations, information overload, and other contemporary
stressors, what new possibilities are emerging for articulating human
experience? Is the Bildungsroman/ /being adapted in new ways to
changing circumstances? Are our notions of risk, security, and
investment being transformed? Are writers constructing new models for
making decisions or negotiating uncertainty?
