"Free Speech and Chicago." This panel will explore the political, economic,=20
and cultural influences which are particular to the city of Chicago, as well=
as=20
the influence of forums and the art of soapboxing. Around 1913, Chicago was=20=
a=20
hotbed for the emergence of trade unions and labor movements mostly notably=20
the Industrial Workers of the World, better known as IWW and the Wobblies.=20
These groups brought to the forefront a public awareness of social injustice=
