In six or eight of her stories from the Vietnam War years, Kate Wilhelm made a name for herself as one
of the most aggressive critics of the culture of violence in the military-industrial state. But her work at
that time was hardly unique in her oeuvre; from as early as the 1950s, with the suicidal explosion that
ends her second published story, Wilhelm's fiction has been engaged in analyses of the violent mindset,
of how individual and societal violence interrelate, of the cognitive basis of violent personalities, and of

"Every region neere": Explorations in gendered, generic, historical, and
geographic regions, 1500-1700

I have recently been contacted by Cambridge Scholars Press about possibly
editing a volume on early modern approaches to region, and I am interested in
soliciting abstracts for contributions that consider gendered, generic, or
geographic regions in early modern texts.

"Every region neere": Explorations in gendered, generic, historical, and
geographic regions, 1500-1700

I have recently been contacted by Cambridge Scholars Press about possibly
editing a volume on early modern approaches to region, and I am interested in
soliciting abstracts for contributions that consider gendered, generic, or
geographic regions in early modern texts.

Submissions are invited for a collection of essays analyzing the novels =
and short stories of black British author Zadie Smith. The main focus of =
the collection will be to explore the various ways Smith approaches =
issues of race, identity, and post colonialism.=20

Suggested topics for discussion include:

Black British/British identity in a global community

Exploring Biracial identity in a British context

Interracial relationships

The utopian view of "race mixing"

A comparative view of post colonialism: immigrant vs. British born =

This is the first cfp for 'British Screens Now', an international conference to be held at
Manchester Metropolitan University and Cornerhouse Cinema Manchester, UK.

Deadline for abstracts: 31st March 2006.

'British Screens Now' will address, in the broadest sense, screen media produced and consumed in
Britain. Bringing together practitioners and scholars, it will look forward and backwards in an
attempt to promote an understanding of what appears on British screens, how it gets there and how it
is consumed. The conference will also encourage a sustained reassessment of what actually
constitutes 'British screens' in increasingly global contexts.

2006 TRANS-FORMING FEMINISM CONFERENCE CALL FOR PROPOSALS

The 3rd Annual Trans-Forming Feminism Conference is currently
in its planning stages. This one-day conference is to be held
at the State University of New York at New Paltz (SUNY New
Paltz) on April 22, 2006.

Pataphysica 4, "Pataphysica e Alchimia 2," will follow in the
footsteps of Pataphysica 2, "Pataphysica e Alchimia," in
presenting Part 2 of Alfred Jarry's final, unfinished novel The
She-Dragon (1907), again in the form of an annotated literal
translation highlighting Jarry's use of alchemical and
mythological symbolism. It will again be edited and introduced
by Dr. Faustroll, and submissions should be sent for
consideration to faustroll1_at_juno.com. "Juno," as everyone
knows, is the Roman counterpart to the Greek Hera, who
represented the Earth in the same way that her husband Zeus
stood for the sky, suggesting that this e-mail address is a way
