AI & Antiquity: Journal of Teaching and Technology in Ancient Studies invites contributions for its first Special Issue, Playing Antiquity: Video Games, Teaching and Historical Knowledge, to be published in June 2027.

Video games have become one of the major environments through which students and wider audiences encounter the ancient world. Yet their significance for Ancient Studies extends beyond questions of historical accuracy. Through mechanics, rules, maps, narratives, economies, political systems, and player choice, games transform particular interpretations of Antiquity into interactive and playable systems.

Storyworlds is an interdisciplinary journal of narrative studies. We publish cutting-edge research on storytelling practices across times, cultures, and media. The journal foregrounds research questions that cut across established disciplines and seeks to promote the understanding of narrative and storytelling as worldmaking—and worldbreaking—practices.

We currently have a number of books available or forthcoming for review.

AI and Sovereignty

Artificial intelligence is transforming the conditions through which power is exercised, distributed, and legitimized. The development and deployment of AI systems involve not only technological questions, but also fundamental issues concerning language, communication, authority, identity, autonomy, control, and sovereignty.

“Borderless World: Text, Image, and Sound”

Florida State University, Tallahassee

April 1-2, 2027

How do we imagine life beyond borders? How do disparate texts, images, sounds, bodies, languages, and histories become interconnected? What does it mean to inhabit a world where boundaries are unstable, permeable, or altogether absent? Conversely, how are borders constantly produced, negotiated, and challenged through acts of creation, interpretation, and community-building?

CALL FOR PAPERSBetter MenHealing Masculinity and Dismantling Patriarchy From Within

What would it mean for a man to come home to himself?

Not the patriarchal self shaped by silence and performance, but the divine masculine. Patriarchy teaches men that strength has no needs, that manhood means enduring and providing. What does it look like to reclaim a masculine self that knows how to grieve and how to celebrate, how to ask for help and how to offer it, how to listen and how to share?

NeMla session: Ecologies of the Human and Nonhuman in Italian Literature

This session explores how Indigenous literary and cultural productions transform histories of colonial violence, dispossession, and erasure into acts of community witness and collective empowerment. Across Native American, First Nations, and other Indigenous traditions, writers have challenged state-controlled narratives that render Indigenous experiences invisible, replacing imposed silence with storytelling practices rooted in survivance, kinship, and communal memory.

From Christopher Strachey’s Love Letter Generator to today’s generative AI writing tools and multimodal models, AI technologies are reshaping how literary works are created, adapted, and circulated across media. Texts can now be generated, illustrated, voiced, animated, and transformed into comics, audiobooks, visual art, and video, prompting renewed questions about creativity, form, authorship, authenticity, and human agency. This seminar asks: Can AI-generated literature and art be understood as forms of artificial creativity? Does AI expand, automate, or redefine human creativity? How does human–AI collaboration challenge traditional ideas of authorship and authenticity?
