Historical Fictions Research Conference, Manchester, 13th & 14th February 2025
Translation is an essential and indispensable skill for foreign language students. Through translation, they have the opportunity not only to reflect upon and deeply understand cultural and linguistic aspects of the target language, but they are also capable of compare it with the source culture and language. It is a linguistic exercise, a creative process, as well as an opportunity for cultural immersion and a creative process. However, teaching a translation class or simply integrating translation activities into the language classroom comes with myriad pedagogical challenges for the instructor.

Call for Papers for a Special Issue of Studies in the Novel: Disability and Disease in the Novel

Sophia Lucid invites academic research papers from teachers and researchers across universities, colleges and research institutes in India. The fourth issue (Volume IV, Issue I) on “Artificial Intelligence, Technology and Society” invites scholars to rethink the existing paradigms, perspectives and compendium of knowledge on this broad area, through the disciplines of humanities, social sciences and natural sciences. An interdisciplinary discussion of ideas and concerns is highly recommended. Moreover, paper submissions must be original, contemporary and relevant, in providing a quality contribution to the existing body of knowledge. A list of suggestive areas is given below.

This is the third year of having our conference at a University instead of a hotel; conference participants will be responsible for securing their own lodging.
Since the 1990s, the impact of transnational flows in technology, finance and knowledge have significantly altered the trajectories of filmmaking from South-Asian countries. Among the new developments is indigenous cinema, in a multitude of linguistic varieties and cultural diversities. South Asia is home to several indigenous communities, with India alone having 104 million Adivasi communities across the nation, as per the 2011 census data (Adivasi being the collective term for indigenous groups in India). These communities share certain features, their heterogeneity being the most striking. Many of these communities belong to the margins, with minimal resources and social capital to ensure their wellbeing.

What began as a predominantly American gay white cisgender male identity and community has grown and transformed substantially since the publication of The Bear Book (1997) and Bear Book II in 2000. Since then bear culture has spread rapidly across the globe and been embraced embodied and transformed into new sex and gender identities beyond the hetero/homo binary and further inflected by non-Anglophonic cultures. Self-identifying bears are “queering” masculinities. These profound shifts in bear identity, community, and culture remain underdocumented and understudied.
Black British Music: Past, Present and Futures is an interdisciplinary symposium that reflects on the meaning, histories and legacies of Black British music. The symposium forms part of a broader partnership project between the British Library and the University of Westminster’s Black Music Research Unit (BMRU). Culminating in the first major exhibition on Black British Music, Beyond the Bassline: 500 years of Black British Music, the partnership aims to research and curate national collections relating to Black musical experiences in Britain in a way that engages with broader conversations on British popular culture and Black histories.

Femspec is an interdisciplinary, peer-reviewed feminist academic journal dedicated to science fiction, fantasy, magical realism, surrealism, myth, folklore, and other supernatural genres. Femspec publishes both academic scholarship and creative writing.
Creative writing submissions could include short fiction, poetry, or experimental forms.

This year’s South Atlantic Modern Language Association (SAMLA) conference theme, Seen and Unseen, considers how the perceptual lens influences our vision of the world around us. All national narratives are iterative projects that never quite arrive at the truth, but the (re)mainstreaming of far-right ideologies across American society has engendered a collection of false histories and mythopoetic frameworks shaped in their image, often aggressively vying for space in the public imagination. This session invites papers and multimedia presentations examining the development, dissemination, or impact of alternate visions/versions of any component of the American story and the principles that have animated it.

The journal aims to provide an active international forum for analysis, research, and debate in the fields of political sciences, international relations, and law. Papers that develop theoretical arguments or offer strong empirical evidence as either comparative or single-case studies are welcome. The 3rd International Humanities–Society–Identity Congress: Diversity in Equality Programme Committee is looking forward to welcoming you to Warsaw. The Congress embraces the study of all aspects pertaining to the notions of Humanities – Society – Identity. The focus is on the changes observed in those three areas with the main question being how to balance diversity and equality. We would like to invite you to submit proposals for articles for thematic issues "Values – axiology – of culture".
The dynamic reality of the second decade of the 21st century makes us think of the surrounding world as a sphere of constant change, full of violent events, breaking ties with what until recently seemed traditional and unchangeable. It also provokes reflection on how the sense of axiological crisis has been dealt with over the centuries, to what extent the methods of overcoming this crisis developed at that time have opened up new perspectives for the development of culture, literature and language, to what degree they have turned out to be a trap, and finally to what extent they are used in contemporary creative activities.
