In Laudato Si', Pope Francis declared, "a great cultural, spiritual and educational challenge stands before us [...] Education in environmental responsibility can encourage ways of acting which directly and significantly affect the world around us [...] living our vocation to be protectors of God's handiwork" (2015: 202-217). Seven years later, educators continue to face this challenge of integrating faith and spirituality into teaching about the ecological crisis we face in the twenty-first century. How can we empower our young people to take action and become the ecological citizens of the future?

Graphic novels, due to their nature as both visual and verbal texts, occupy a fertile ground for expression. As Jonathan C. Evans and Thomas Giddens stated in Cultural Excavation and Formal Expression in the Graphic Novel (2013), “The graphic novel is a tool: of self-expression and personal identity; of cultural understanding and philosophical exploration; of history and hope. Comics and graphic novels traverse themes such as heroism, identity, philosophy, gender, history, and colonialism.” As examples, works like Marjane Satrapi’s Persepolis and Lynda J. Barry’s One Hundred Demons illustrate how graphic novels speak to their audiences through the juxtaposition of image and words.

With Disney’s initial apathetic response to the ‘Don’t Say Gay’ bill which recently passed in the state of Florida, it is time to shed light on Disney’s complex relationship with the LGBTQIA2S+ community. Recently, there have been works which briefly discuss the relationship of queerness and Disney, such as Sean Griffin’s Tinker Bells and Evil Queens (2000), Melanie S. Kohnen Queer Representation, Visibility, and Race (2016), Jennifer Sandlin and Julie Garlen’s edited collection Disney, Culture, and Curriculum (2016), and Joseph Brennan’s edited collection Queerbaiting and Fandom (2019). However, the queer artist/contributor has yet to be the main topic of discussion.
For nearly two decades, the “antisocial thesis” has enthralled queer theoretical thought, permeating a variety of debates surrounding relationality, sexuality, gender, race, psychoanalysis, and temporality. Christened by Robert L. Caserio during an infamous 2005 MLA panel, the antisocial thesis, Caserio elaborates, described a “decade of explorations of queer unbelonging” positioned against an intensifying “gay rage for normalizing sociability.” As Robyn Wiegman warns, however, the antisocial thesis “is not ‘a’ thesis.

Abuse and Neglect of Minors in Adaptations
The process that is central to the development of language is the critical encounter between different groups (marked by their "physical, cognitive, neurological differences," as NeMLA's note on "resilience" suggests) in possession of different kinds of valuation in the course of which "certain words, tones, rhythms, meanings are offered, felt for, tested, confirmed, asserted, qualified, changed" (Keywords 12). This process of evolution/metamorphosis, as demonstrated by Raymond Williams in his Keywords, is often accelerated in periods of unprecedented crisis.

More than a generation has passed since Columbia University’s 1988 Summer Writers’ Festival brought together a roundtable for “Throwing Dirt on the Grave of Minimalism,” but it seems minimalisms are alive and well both in aesthetics and in lifestyles in the twenty-first century. What are the forms, styles, and genres of minimalism today? What is their relation to the heyday of minimalist sculpture, music, literature, and architecture in the 1960s through 1980s? Who are the practitioners of minimalism, and how are various minimalisms gendered, racialized, sexualized, and classed? And under what social, political, and economic conditions are these practitioners drawn to minimalism now?
