The Bible in the Nineteenth Century:
The Word and its Re-Wordings in British Literature and Thought

The Bible has played a significant part in British culture since the
Reformation. It has been a major reference not only in the field of
religious experience but also, more broadly, in artistic expression and
intellectual reflection. At the beginning of the nineteenth century, the
Evangelical Revival placed the Scriptures at the heart of religious
practices and certain Romantics reasserted the importance of the Bible by
offering new readings.

Open Words is a journal dedicated to publishing articles focusing on political, professional, and pedagogical issues related to teaching composition, reading, creative writing, and literature to open admissions and non-mainstream student populations. Papers are invited for a panel at the 2006 Society for the Study of
American Women Writers Meeting. These essays should explore the plays,
criticism, or poetry of either or both authors, focusing on anti-war
sentiment, women's rights, social activism, lesbianism, imagism,
environmentalism, "Boston Marriages," etc. Submissions might also
examine their friendship, letters, and/or mutual mentoring. Please send
abstracts to Susan Stone, Loras College, (Susan.Stone_at_loras.edu), by
January 12th, 2006.

The 1960s was one of the most tumultuous decades of the Twentieth Century,
introducing new forms of American Culture, as well as changing existing
forms. This area welcomes explorations of any aspect of the decade, from
civil rights to platform shoes. Contributions from interdisciplinary fields
as well as single disciplines are encouraged.

of academic essays on the animated program, South Park. Possible topics

representations of intelligence in popular television. The editor is
working closely with a publisher that has conveyed strong interest in
this project.

The book addresses the issue of the constructions of intelligence and

implications of those constructions.
