POST SCRIPT SPECIAL ISSUE:
CONTEMPORARY SOUTH KOREAN CINEMA

The past several years have witnessed an explosion, both in
terms of production and popularity, of South Korean cinema.
Korean films have been the focus of retrospectives in Paris;
Washington, DC; and New York (this year alone!) and have
garnered awards at international film festivals in Hong Kong,
France, Italy, Switzerland, Finland, Germany, and Japan.
Several Hollywood remakes are already in the works, including
revisions of such hits as My Wife is a Gangster, Oldboy, My
Sassy Girl, and Il Mare.

Alternatives Within the Mainstream II: Queer Theatre in Britain

Critics are invited to write chapters for a critical study of contemporary
British post-war queer theatre. The focus is on bi, trans, gay, lesbian
identities as represented on the British stage. Keeping in mind that queer
identities are fluid and always in a state of flux, defying definitions and
binary oppositions, articles are invited which examine these identities
as represented in British drama since 1950.

The Bible in the Nineteenth Century: the Word and its Re-Wordings in Bristish Literature and Thought:

The Bible has played a significant part in British culture since the Reformation. It has been a major reference not only in the field of religious experience but also, more broadly, in artistic expression and intellectual reflection. At the beginning of the nineteenth century, the Evangelical Revival thus placed the Scriptures at the heart of religious practices and certain Romantics reasserted the importance of the Bible in renewing its reading.

Submissions are sought for a volume on Gendered Violence in the Media to be edited by Sujata Moorti and Lisa Cuklanz. Femininst/women's studies approaches are preferred. Topics may include but are not limited to: representations of sexual assault, rape, harassment and verbal abuse in genres of television and film; news coverage of issues, persons, trials, or cases related to gendered violence; shifts in the landscape of media representation of these issues; global topics including trafficking, slavery, and rape in war; other understandings of gendered violence such as pornography, sexual objectification, and graphic humor.

The Thomas Browne Seminar

Representing Reading in Early Modern England

Proposals are invited for a panel at RSA 2006 in San Francisco (23-25 March)
exploring the representation of reading and readers in Early Modern England.
Although there has been an increasing amount of work dedicated to material
reading practices, little attempt has been made to understand the complex and,
at times, even contradictory ways in which these practices were being
reproduced in the written and visual arts. How did reading signify in Early
Modern England?
