CALL FOR PAPERS

The BAAS Annual Conference for the year 2007 will be hosted by the Centre for American Studies at the University of Leicester, from 19-22 April 2007.

2007 marks the tenth birthday of the Centre for American Studies at the University of Leicester so we are particularly pleased to host the conference this year. It also promises to be a very interesting year for reflecting on American history and culture given that it will be 400 years after the founding of Jamestown, Virginia and 50 years since Little Rock and Sputnik.

The Marxist Literary Group will be holding its annual Institute on
Culture and Society at Georgetown University, June 8-12. This year's
theme, "The Materialist Suture," is intended to focus discussion on the
ties that bind cultural and theoretical production to their material
conditions of possibility. As always, however, any proposal that
engages seriously with Marxist thought will be considered. Panels
already accepted include "New French Marxism," "The Dialectical Image
Revisited," "Recent Russian Research on the Repressions of the 1930s in
the USSR," "New Feminist Marxisms," "What is the 'Corporate
University,'" "Marxism and Animal Studies," "Progressive Nostalgia:
