Femspec seeks both scholarly and creative submissions for its upcoming Issue 27.1.  Femspec is an interdisciplinary, peer-reviewed feminist academic journal dedicated to science fiction, fantasy, magical realism, surrealism, myth, folklore, and other supernatural genres.  Femspec publishes both academic scholarship and creative writing. Creative writing submissions could include short fiction, poetry, or experimental forms.

In late August, 2026, a massive flood thundered down onto mountain towns near the Nepal/China border. Breaking off a glacier located high on the Langtang Lirung peak in Nepal's Langtang National Park, the flood consumed everything in its path in a spectacle of destruction. As the global temperature continues to rise, scientists now predict increasingly devastating climate disasters such as this. And yet, nothing changes. 

This edited volume examines some of the reasons why.

How do people narrate movement, imagine home and negotiate belonging? This international conference brings literary inquiry into conversation with interdisciplinary perspectives on borders, migration and diaspora. From the Great Depression and the Partition of India to the movement of workers during the COVID-19 pandemic, migration has generated literary, cinematic and media representations that illuminate relationships among individuals, communities and nation-states.

The Elizabeth von Arnim Society invites proposals for "Literary Gardens: Cultivation, Movement, and Modernism," an international online conference to be held February 12–13, 2027. The conference is in conversation with "The Literary Garden: The Cultivation of Plants & Gardens in Narratives," an exhibit at the Stephen and Peter Sachs Museum, Missouri Botanical Garden (May 2026–March 2027), curated by Nezka Pfeifer.

The Heidelberg Center for American Studies (HCA) invites applications for its annual Spring Academy on American Culture, Economics, Geography, History, Literature, Politics, and Religion to be held from April 5-9, 2027.

Immersion is a key concept in the fantastic. From the 3D worlds of Avatar to the in-depth lore of The Lord of the Rings, fantastic narratives thrive on the idea of immersing us in worlds so detailed that we feel as if we are really there. Fantastic worlds often come with their own detailed maps, histories, languages, and cultures, creating the illusion of being a real place. Media industries invest heavily in producing technologies of immersion, such as 4D cinema or VR games. Myth in Literature and Music

The Interdisciplinary Center for Research on Heritage in Arts and Languages (CIRPaLL) at the University of Angers is proud to host the 15th Conference of the International Association for Word and Music Studies (WMA) on Myth in Literature and Music from 30 June to 3 July 2027 at the Maison de la Recherche Germaine Tillionin Angers, France.

In 2023, the Library of America published a collection of Faulkner’s short stories, the sixth volume of its edition of William Faulkner’s works, which shows a keen and never-ending interest in a part of his work which was perceived by academics in varying ways. In 2017, the prestigious French collection La Pléiade published a 1824-page-long volume containing all of Faulkner’s short stories, including collected, uncollected, posthumous and original versions of stories reworked and incorporated in The Town and The Mansion, in translations revisited by François Pitavy. Faulkner himself admitted: “I never wrote a short story I liked” (Lion in the Garden 59).
