DSQ Theme Issue: Freakery
Summer 2005

Disability Studies Quarterly announces a Call for Papers for a theme issue
on "Freakery." Since the 1996 publication of the anthology Freakery:
Cultural Spectacles of the Extraordinary Body, the freak no longer
occupies the margins of interdisciplinary scholarly discourse. Many
scholars, following Leslie Fiedler's framing of the "Tyranny of the
Normal" paradigm, have commented on freakery's applicability to and
usefulness in a wide variety of academic, social, and political
discourses. This special issue of DSQ seeks to represent the current use
of freak research by today's scholars.

(Contracted for publication by Wilfrid Laurier University Press)

EXTENDED DEADLINE: 15 August 2004

Due a large number of requests having to do with films rather than
television series, the editors have decided to extend the call for
papers to 15 August 2004 and to alter the subtitle to include film
along with television. Please submit your completed essays (5000-8000
words, Chicago manual of style) to Michael Eberle-Sinatra
(michael.eberle.sinatra_at_umontreal.ca) or Dino Felluga
(DFelluga_at_sla.purdue.edu).

CFP for "Material Gothic": a special issue of Gothic Studies

Dear Colleagues:

This is a call for contributions to the Hispanic American Literature Volume in
*The Encyclopedia of American Ethnic Literature.*

Contributors are sought to write entries on Hispanic American Literature for the *Encyclopedia of American Ethnic Literature,* a 3-volume set, to be published by Facts On File. Facts on File is a New York publisher of reference books for high school and college students (www.factsonfile.com).

Entries range from 600 to 1200 words; each contributor may write one or several entries.

antiTHESIS is a fully-refereed journal of contemporary theory, criticism and culture, and Australia's longest-running interdisciplinary postgraduate journal. It is produced by postgraduates in the Department of English with Cultural Studies and Creative Writing at the University of Melbourne.
