In 2004, Bruno Latour published his seminal essay “Why Has Critique Run Out of Steam: Turning from Matters of Fact to Matters of Concern.” In the nearly twenty years following, there have been several literary scholars who have ruminated on this topic. We have since seen a rise of close reading (Heather Love, Sharon Marcus, S. Best) methodologies and theoretical frames regarding the usefulness (Rita Felski, 2008 and Sara Ahmed) of literature and literary studies. Yet, we still seem to be asking if what we do matters.

I am pleased to announce the Call for Papers for WIF at the 2022 MMLA Convention (to be held in person November 16-21 in Minneapolis, MN). We welcome proposals that relate the study of French and Francophone women authors, the study of women's place in French and Francophone cultures or literatures, and feminist literary criticism to this year's theme: “Post-Now.”

How has the pandemic permanently changed your teaching? How are we permanently changed as educators? This session addresses how teaching through the pandemic has changed scholars’ professional practices, pedagogies, or epistemologies.

The fortieth annual conference of the Association for the Advancement of Scandinavian Studies in Canada (AASSC) will be held virtually from Monday, May 16–Thursday, May 19, 2022.
