TEXT Journal of Writing and Writing Courses welcomes submission of research articles on creative and professional writing and processes, the teaching of writing and related issues. TEXT also welcomes the submission of creative work, book reviews, and scholarly interviews providing that the matter of the creative work concerns exploration of creativity, or the nature and processes of creative writing, or the nature and processes of the teaching of writing, or investigation of creative practice research in a creative writing context. Our southern winter reading period is open 1 May to 31 July 2023. TEXT occasionally publishes specific-topic collections or longer works in its Special Issue Series.

The 2023 conference for the Association for the Study of Literature and Environment, UK and Ireland (ASLE-UKI) will be hosted by the Literature and Science Hub at the University of Liverpool. ASLE-UKI welcomes participation from scholars, readers, and creative practitioners interested in the relationships between literatures, environments and cultures – past, present, or future from anywhere in the world.

This interdisciplinary volume seeks to bring multiple fields together in order to investigate diaspora, food, and memory. 

This volume takes a multi-field approach to answer the following three questions:

1. How do diasporic communities use food to navigate a relationship with their homeland? 

2. In what ways do diasporic foodways sustain and/or rupture cultural legacies?

3. What are the relationships between food and cultural memory?

Proposal Notes

Inspired by Pascale Casanova's world literary system, this panel seeks to challenge national paradigms by investigating transnational mediators. We welcome papers addressing writers who specialize in international mediation strategies (adaptation, translation, mimesis, extraction), specific moments of cultural brokerage, or literary works that are considered to have global influences and international linguistic-literary value. Please submit a 250-word abstract directly to the conference website - https://pamla.ballastacademic.com - by May 31.

We are currently accepting submissions for the Renaissance Literature Excluding Drama panel taking place at the 2023 South Central Modern Language Association annual conference. The conference will be held in Corpus Christi, TX, on October 12-14. We welcome papers on any and all non-dramatic literary Renaissance works, including works from the English Renaissance/Early Modern period. From Machiavelli to Milton and Cervantes to Stanley, all works of poetry and prose are open for consideration. Neither the conference nor the panel have a theme, so we welcome papers with a wide range of topics. The deadline to submit abstracts is July 10, 2023. Cultural Intertexts, an academic journal of Literature and Cultural Studies, ISSN 2393-0624, E-ISSN 2393-1078, invites proposals of original articles related to the theme: “Representations of the Danube in Literature and the Arts”.

From the Black Forest to the Black Sea, the Danube crosses ten countries and four capital cities, forming a site of cultural memory, both fluid because of the natural features of the river and static because of the lands it connects. From epoch to epoch, the Danube has sparked the imagination of many writers and artists that left us a rich artistic heritage, whose disparate locations invite us to travel and explore.

Henri Bergson was a French philosopher and winner of the Nobel Prize for literature in 1927. Bergson’s lectures were popular with not only academia, but public audiences as well. Bergson influenced the literary work of authors like Borges, Proust, and Woolf as well as the philosophical work of Merleau-Ponty, Sartre, and Deleuze. In addition, Bergson, a talented mathematician, debated Einstein on the nature of relativity. Bergson’s work has had instrumental influence in the virtual reality gaming industry. Considering Bergson’s influence in art and science, this panel offers unbounded opportunities to explore and unpack his narratives as they relate to any number of themes related to shifting perspectives.

    Historically in the United States of America, immigrants of Asian origin have been the subject of extremely violent legal measures—one need only recall the 1882 “Chinese Exclusion Act” or the other major laws against the naturalization of Asians voted in 1924 and 1934.
