Call for abstracts on the relationship between poetry and the cyber-age.

Poets, professors, and lovers of poetry in general repeatedly assert that the
book as an aesthetic object has lasting value. But are we kidding ourselves?
 With a readership increasingly reliant on the computer, and a new generation
of students who have never known a time when the Internet was more than a
click away, is it only a matter of time before poetry is primarily an element of
cyberspace? Is this good or bad? With more than a hundred fonts, point
sizes, untold programs and graphic elements, how will the function of the computer
affect the actual forms of poetry?

Harriet Martineau: Subjects and Subjectivities

This interdisciplinary one-day conference considers the making of political, imperial and individual identities in the work of Harriet Martineau (1802-1876). Organized by Cora Kaplan (Queen Mary) and Ella Dzelzainis (Birkbeck) in association with the University of London’s Institute of English Studies, it will be held at the Senate House, Bloomsbury on Saturday 21 April 2007. Confirmed speakers include the leading scholars Catherine Hall (UCL), Deborah Anna Logan (Western Kentucky) and Linda Peterson (Yale).

We invite submissions for several sessions on Rock and Roll Culture. Topics
can include but are not limited to artists, albums, CDs, genres,
