A Special Issue of Comparative Drama

CFP: Political Perelman RSA (Rhetoric Society of America) 2006

Beginning with the statement, ?We combat uncompromising and irreducible philosophical oppositions presented by all kinds of absolutisms? (510), Chaim Perelman and Lucie Olbrechts-Tyteca close The New Rhetoric on a decidedly political note. They suggest that a new rhetoric that explicitly describes modern discourse exposes the political structures of that discourse, and thus has political as well as philosophical utility. However, during its initial reception, the political implications of a new rhetoric were overshadowed in the flurry of interest over the ?universal audience? and other markedly philosophical questions.

Calling for articles on all major topics in the study of twentieth-century
British literature--articles exploring the state of criticism on the given
subject and/or recommending new directions--for _Literature Compass_
(Blackwell's on-line journal devoted to new developments in criticism and
theory).

Mainframe Experimentalism: early digital computing and the experimental
arts, edited by Douglas Kahn and Hannah Higgins.

We invite proposals for an interdisciplinary collection on the encounter of
artists, musicians, poets and writers, and filmmakers working within
avant-garde, experimental and artistically innovative traditions with
mainframe computers and institutionally-bound digital technologies during
the 1960s and 1970s.

The Bible in the Nineteenth Century:
The Word and its Re-Wordings in British Literature and Thought

The Bible has played a significant part in British culture since the
Reformation. It has been a major reference not only in the field of
religious experience but also, more broadly, in artistic expression and
intellectual reflection. At the beginning of the nineteenth century, the
Evangelical Revival placed the Scriptures at the heart of religious
practices and certain Romantics reasserted the importance of the Bible by
offering new readings.

criticism, or poetry of either or both authors, focusing on anti-war
sentiment, women's rights, social activism, lesbianism, imagism,
environmentalism, "Boston Marriages," etc. Submissions might also
examine their friendship, letters, and/or mutual mentoring. Please send

Cultural Studies in Emerging Knowledges, is seeking web-based
multimedia contributions for its first issue. HyperRhiz affirms and
extends the mandate of Rhizomes, which is to publish peer-reviewed
works based on or responding to Deleuzian analyses of culture.

The format of contributions may include:
