The Margaret Fuller Society will sponsor two panels at the 33rd Annual Conference of the American Literature Association, to be held 26–29 May 2022 at The Palmer House Hilton in Chicago.

We are looking to round out our collected volume for a collection of critical essays that examine how women vigilantes, anti-heroines and outlaws of this era were represented in movie serials, radio dramas, films, comics, theater, and pulp fiction.  The majority of the book is set, and we are in negotiations with a peer-review publisher. As this will be a multidisciplinary collection, we encourage submissions from scholars in any of the numerous fields that examine the representation of women in American popular culture from 1865-1940. The call is open to a broad spectrum of methodological and critical approaches, and we invite submissions from seasoned as well as emerging scholars.

Professing Literature / Professing Faith: A Roundtable Discussion

The Comics and Popular Arts Conference (CPAC) invites submissions for our 15th Annual meeting in Atlanta, Georgia, September 1-5, 2022.

CPAC is an annual academic conference for the studies of comics and the popular arts, including science/speculative fiction and fantasy literature, film, and other media, comic books, manga, graphic novels, anime, gaming, etc., presented to a mixed audience of scholars and fans. The mission of CPAC is to promote scholarship on popular culture and to encourage the engagement between scholars and fans in order to deepen our understanding of comics and other popular arts. CPAC presentations are peer reviewed, based in scholarly research.

CFP: Class and Contemporary UK Film and Television. Virtual Conference 7 July 2022

Contemporary film and TV in the UK appear to offer at least three interrelated problems for the lower socio-economic classes. There is imbalance, exploitation, and precarity in the industry; perennial problems around representation; and the inculcation of neoliberal ideology antithetical to social justice and equality. This free virtual conference, held by London Metropolitan University on Thursday 7th July 2022, is an opportunity to reflect upon and react to this scenario. Presenters will be welcome to develop their papers for submission to a special double edition of the Journal of Class and Culture.

We are excited to announce that 2022’s Keystone DH Conference will be held June 15-17 at Johns Hopkins University’s Center for Digital Humanities in Baltimore, MD. Keystone DH is an annual conference and a network of institutions and practitioners committed to advancing collaborative scholarship in digital humanities research and pedagogy across the Mid-Atlantic. It is the organizers’ hope that the event will be hybrid, with both online and in-person components.

The Race and Yoga editorial board is currently seeking articles, personal narratives, interviews, book reviews, and creative works for the seventh issue of the journal. For this open theme issue, we are particularly interested in work that addresses the contemporary context and/or explores the connection between the present and the past.

Race and Yoga is a peer-reviewed, interdisciplinary, and international academic journal committed to critical examinations of the history, politics, and practice of yoga.

Possible topics may include yoga in relationship to:

As a postcolonial African (Cameroonian) poet, the texts of Veyu exhibit multiple layers of connection with a multitude of texts. December 29th 2022 will be the 100th anniversary of William Gaddis’ birth. Washington University in St Louis, whose library holds Gaddis’ comprehensive archive, will commemorate this centenary two months earlier with exhibitions, art events, and performances, as well as an academic conference on the prospects for the next 100 years of studying Gaddis’s life and work. The celebration will be organized by Joel Minor (curator of the Modern Literature Collection, including Gaddis’ archive, at the university’s Olin Library), and Ali Chetwynd (author of multiple articles on Gaddis’ archive).

The conference will take place on Friday,20may, 9 a.m., 2022, online.

The event, at the XIII-th edition, addresses the current and complex problem of the creativity process, analyzed from interdisciplinary perspectives.

OBJECTIVES
