Life Writing
Special Issue 2008

"Trauma in the Twenty-First Century"
Guest editors: Kate Douglas and Gillian Whitlock

This issue of Life Writing seeks to explore the ways in which life narratives of
trauma are circulating in contemporary cultural landscapes. What events and
memories are considered 'traumatic' in the contemporary world and why? Whose
traumatic memories are commemorated in the public sphere? And what is the
political utility of these traumatic memories? What are the implications of
representing an event or memory as traumatic, or in representing an individual
or community as traumatised?

The Drama section of the Midwest Modern Language Association (MMLA) is
accepting papers on the following topic: =20

Displacing the Stage

This section welcomes essays on the Protean nature of theatre, the
definition of theatre, theatrical events outside of the traditional
theatre space, the use of history, current events, popular culture, and
technology in plays both now and in the past, theatre and political
activism, politics as theatre, theatre's future, and theatre's effects
on "the real" world. Send 50-word abstracts, contact information

MEDIASCAPE, UCLA's online Critical Studies journal, is now accepting
submissions for the Features, Reviews, Columns and Meta sections of its
next issue. This journal, a place for articles pertaining to film,
television, new media and other areas of visual culture, is
peer-reviewed and published on an annual table. The deadline for the
next issue is the 1st of January, 2007.

Call for papers: 'C.S. Lewis: Critic, Christian and creative writer', April
13-14, 2007, University of Manchester, UK

Contributions are invited for a major international and interdisciplinary
conference reassessing the critical, creative and theological work of C. S.
Lewis. This conference is being hosted by the University of Manchester, UK, and
is being planned in conjuction with the Centre for Literature and Belief,
University of Ulster, UK.

The Humanities and Technology Association invites submissions to its annual journal, *Humanities and Technology Review* (HTR) for Autumn, 2007.
HTR offers a publication outlet for interdisciplinary articles on a broad range of themes addressing the interface between the humanities and technology. HTR is a refereed journal, and all decisions will be made by the assessing editors, the editorial advisory board and the chief editors. Commentaries and responses to individual articles and reviews are welcome.
