The Department of Modern Languages at Jaume I University, Castellón, Spain,
is launching a new academic Journal, Cultura, Lenguaje y Representación
(Culture, Language and Representation). This yearly publication will be
dedicated to the exploration of the ideological implications in the
representation of culture from the theoretical perspective of Cultural

Authors are wanted for a collection of essays on Jewish Orientalism.
This volume will encompass theoretical engagements with Edward Said and
other postcolonial theorists by examining the nexus of Jewish identity and
the Oriental Other Within/Without literary, cinematic, and other
representations. Perspectives are welcomed from scholars working on
cultural history (such as the "post-Zionism" debates), intellectual
history, or literary analysis. Topics might encompass Diaspora, migration,
the Jewish narration of national culture vis-a-vis the Other; history and
postcoloniality; focuses that encompass literature, art, as well as

Attention: Undergraduate and Graduate Students

The Yale Journal of Student Anthropology invites essays written by
undergraduate and graduate students regarding cultural, linguistic, and
physical anthropology, and archaeology. Interdisciplinary papers from other
fields that focus on a sociocultural topic are also welcome. Submissions
may include papers written for classes or independently, as well as book
reviews and other scholarly work. The Journal is published as both a print

ESSAYó"Dangerous Writing"
   "Points of Entry: Cross-Currents in Storytelling," an annual
scholarly/professional journal of literary journalism, creative
nonfiction, oral tradition and essay by academics and working
journalists, is accepting submissions for its second issue. We have a
special interest in the "dangerous writing" theme for this issue.
    Essays of 1,000-5,000 words should examine connections between
journalism education and/or practice and storytelling in fiction and/or
oral tradition. How can forms of narrative (narrative strategies, point
of view, structure, dialogue, etc.) inform contemporary journalistic
practice, from reporting and interviewing to writing and editing stories

"Monuments"
Submissions are now sought for the eleventh issue of Variations, the journal=
 of literature of the University of Zurich, to appear in winter 2003.

Number 11 of Variations (Winter 2003) will focus on the topic of
monuments and, more generally, on the issue of the monumental. The
following questions are at the core of our interest:

- To what extent can a literary text be regarded as a monument and
thus as a memorial? What are the formal, textual and stylistic
characteristics of the monumental text (e.g. Proust's work considered
as a cathedral or Moby Dick as a monument of a nation)? Or is it
instead the recipient who characterizes the text as monumental?

CFP: From the Global Ilo: Teaching Chinua Achebe Across Cultures and Social
Experiences

The CEA Critic--the official journal of the College English
Association--invites scholarly articles that focus on texts--fiction,
nonfiction, poetry, drama, film, television--that college English
teachers use in the literaturare or composition classroom and articles
that apply critical approaches to what and how we teach. Articles that
apply close readings of literary texts are particularly welcome.

Accepted manuscripts of 15-25 typed pages--in MLA style--will be edited
to conform to house style. The College English Association holds the
