For a Special Issue of the South Asian Review
On the topic of
=22Globalization with a Focus on South Asia=22
(South Asia is here defined as India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh,
and Nepal.)
For the Special Issue, topics of interdisciplinary interest are also
welcome. Thus:
film,
gender studies,
geography,
religion,
etc.
Globalization and its impacts are variously defined. Malcolm Waters
describes it as =22a social process in which the constraints of geography
on social and cultural arrangements recede and in which people become

Grolier is planning the publication of the Encyclopedia of Modern Drama,
edited by Gabrielle H. Cody and Evert Sprinchorn of Vassar College. This
four-volume set will offer a total of one million words on a variety of
topics ranging from Ibsen to the present, and the target audience consists
of college students, high school students and general readers. Following

Call for papers for special issue of Style on metonymy (Volume 38, number
2, 2004)

Guest editor Gerard Steen of a special issue of Style on metonymy invites
contributions from practitioners of stylistics, linguistics, discourse
analysis, poetics, psychology, and rhetoric on the role of metonymy in
style, language, text, discourse, and thought, literary or non-literary.

Essays on Canadian Writing invites submissions of manuscripts for a =
special issue on textualizing orature and orality--the transformation of =
spoken, chanted, or sung vocalizations into printed or virtual text--and =
the ethical, political, aesthetic, and pedagogical issues raised by such =
textualizations. Some topics that might be addressed include:

  a.. textualized orature: works composed and passed on orally until =
transcribed or otherwise mediated (e.g. the work of anthropologists such =
as Marius Barbeau and Wendy Wickwire or poets like Robert Bringhurst);

Americana: The Institute for the Study of American Popular Culture
(1900-present) announces its call for papers and commentary for its
newsletter (an informal forum for American popular culture enthusiasts),
its main site (containing op-ed style articles), and its peer-reviewed
e-journal Americana: The Journal of American Popular Culture (1900-present).
