The phrase “Publish or perish” resonates for far too many faculty and staff in higher education. It’s all a matter of timing: finding the right topic, the right publication or publisher, and the right time. When it comes to the art of the edited collection, you can create an opportunity for yourself and other contributors to synthesize the collective’s ideas and expertise for the betterment of readers. This roundtable will provide a platform for contributors and editors to discuss how they synchronized diverse perspectives, managed the evolution of themes, and navigated the practicalities of peer review and publisher expectations.

Delta Ecologies asks how delta worlds are shaped by water’s movement, land’s instability, infrastructural promises, and the public stories through which communities remember loss, claim responsibility, and imagine survival. This issue begins from the Bengal-Gangetic world--especially the Ganges-Brahmaputra-Meghna delta, where river systems meet the Bay of Bengal--but it treats the delta not simply as a vulnerable climate zone. It understands the delta as a public world where environmental change becomes a matter of shared interpretation, memory, and responsibility.

The 18th Annual Louisiana Studies Conference will be held September 12, 2026, at Northwestern State University in Natchitoches, Louisiana. The conference committee is now accepting presentation proposals for the upcoming conference. Presentation proposals on any aspect of the 2026 conference theme “Remembering Louisiana,” as well as creative texts by, about, and/or for Louisiana and Louisianans, are sought for this year’s conference.

In Aldous Huxley’s Brave New World, humans are conditioned to seek out human companionship and to despise being by themselves. Helmholtz Watson, a lecturer of Emotional Engineering, relates a story to Bernard Marx about being disciplined for sharing some of his poems with the students he was paid to indoctrinate. When asked what the poems had been about, Helmholtz tells a surprised Bernard, “They were about being alone.”

The guiding thread of this panel develops around a curious remark by Jacques Rancière that would seem to amend a classically Aristotelian thesis: “man is a political animal because he is a literary animal,” the fundamental condition of which is the “excess of words” constitutive of the human animal’s politicalness. Literature (or poetry) has long been placed in close proximity to politics, as we find in Plato’s Republic, where philosophy and literature—and, more generally, philosophy and politics—turn out to be perennial adversaries.

How do female characters employ their bodies to navigate, process, and challenge the cultural and socioeconomic structures of their times? Under the antagonistic system where the pursuit of “good life” is no longer plausible, how do women across different cultures, historical periods, and geopolitical contexts respond by utilizing their bodily autonomy and agency? This panel invites papers that critically investigate female bodily representation in the context of empowerment and change. In particular, this panel is interested in literary analyses that focus on the subtle yet tangible (dis)orientation of female bodies in and out of public spaces.

We are pleased to announce an open call for bids to host the 2027 Post45 Graduate Symposium. The Post45 Graduate Symposium is a two-day event, typically held in Spring, which brings together graduate students and faculty members working on post-1945 arts, literature, media, and culture. Around fifteen graduate students each submit a work-in-progress and convene in a workshop-style setting along with faculty respondents to discuss each participant's work. 

Repetition governed the rhythms of early modern life through the practices of liturgy and prayer, the rote drills of grammar-school pedagogy, the iterative logic of print, and the rhetorical schemes (anaphora, epistrophe, ploce, tautology) that early modern writers were trained to use. Repetition could consolidate memory and community, generate affect, structure devotion, or signal decorum. Yet it could also misfire—becoming tedious, compulsive, alienating, or a mark of failure, excess, or exclusion. This panel asks what repetition did in early modern literature and culture, and for whom, treating it simultaneously as a stylistic device and a lived cultural practice.

Philip Kan Gotanda’s play Yankee Dawg You Die centers a conflict between two Asian American actors. The aging Vincent Chang built his career playing bumbling Japanese soldiers and one-dimensional Asian stereotypes in classic Hollywood. He’s confronted by the up-and-coming Bradley Yamashita, who insists that Asian (American) characters should be played with dignity and accuracy. The heart of the play is an ambivalence about Asian (American) representation and whether viewers should sympathize with Chang for taking the only acting jobs available or with Yamashita in his condemnation of the racist roles—or with both.

Due to the rhetorical challenges of sharing the unmentionable, infertility is often underdiscussed in both Early Modern society and today. It has discomforted and continues to discomfort theologians, medical practitioners, politicians, scholars, and everyday people trying to build identities through societies deeply founded on the structure of the family. The very concept of family is built around parents and children–what happens when a couple is childless, what happens when the children aren’t materially seen, only known to the parents that lost them before birth? It has historically forced thinkers to grapple with their understanding of life and death, grace and agency, reality and the supernatural.

- LITERATURE FOR PEACE: NARRATIVES OF CO-EXISTENCE

Virginia Woolf’s Mrs Dalloway (1925) remains a cornerstone of the modernist literary canon. Often celebrated as Woolf’s greatest novel, the plot is set in post-World War I London and revolves around a single day in the life of its protagonist, Mrs Clarissa Dalloway, as she prepares to host an evening party. Beneath its seemingly simple plot, the novel exemplifies a profound exploration of consciousness, time, and the inner lives of characters through its extensive use of the stream-of-consciousness technique. Although narrated in a third-person omniscient voice, the narrative primarily focuses on the inner consciousness of the characters.
