ART OBJECTS AND WOMEN'S WORDS: WOMEN'S EKPHRASTIC WRITING

A major university press has expressed serious interest in an edited
collection of scholarly essays that explore how female authors produce
verbal representations of visual representations. Publication is
projected for 2008.

CFP: The Frankfurt School (01/15/07; collection)

I welcome abstracts for essays to be included in a proposed volume on
any area of study pertaining directly or indirectly to the Frankfurt
School, for the publication of which I am in talks with Cambridge
Scholars Press.

Abstracts should be approximately two pages long, while full articles
will probably run 15-25 pages in the volume itself.

The Literature and Science Area of the American Culture Association
invites submissions for the 2007 PCA/ACA National Conference, to be held

The deadline for submissions for the Edith Wharton Essay Prize has been
extended to 30 October 2006.

The Edith Wharton Essay Prize is awarded annually for the best unpublished
essay on Edith Wharton by a beginning scholar. Graduate students,
independent scholars, and faculty members who have not held a tenure-track
or full-time appointment for more than four years are eligible to submit
their work.

The winning essay will be published in _The Edith Wharton Review_, a
peer-reviewed journal, and the writer will receive an award of $250.

Collectors and Collecting: Private Collections and their Role in Libraries

Proposals are invited for papers for a conference to be held at Chawton House Library on 19 and 20 July 2007. The event is jointly organised by Chawton House Library, the University of Southampton English Department, and Goucher College, Baltimore.

Proposals for 20-minute papers are invited for the second annual conference of the British Society for Literature and Science. The conference will be held at the Birmingham and Midlands Institute in central Birmingham, hosted by the University of Central England, from 29-31 March 2007. Plenary speakers include Robert Crawford and Jenny Uglow.

Papers may address topics in the interactions of literature and science in any period and any languages. Presenters need not be based in UK institutions.

We also invite panel proposals for three papers of 20 minutes or four papers of 15 minutes; members of the panel should be drawn from more than one institution.

The Durrell School of Corfu will host an international seminar on 'The
Writer's Reputation: Gender, Time, Geography' at its Library and Study
Centre, 3-8 June 2007.

The reputation of a writer is affected by many factors. For example, it is
common for a writer's reputation to suffer a decline in public interest and
appreciation after his/her death. Such a reputation may be enhanced in later
years by the renewal of critical interest.
