2nd Call for Papers: Visual Propaganda in an Era of Instability

Nottimngham Trent University, UK
deadline for submissions:
Sunday, November 1, 2026

This is the second call for papers for the edited volume tentatively titled ‘Visual Propaganda in an Era of Instability’. Based on distinct case studies explored in a wide range of book chapters, the main objective of the volume is to analyse the role of the image in driving public opinion and perception. The first call for papers generated a strong response and resulted in a number of high-quality contributions. During the review process, however, it became clear that several important dimensions of contemporary visual propaganda remained underrepresented. To address these gaps, we are issuing a second call for papers and expanding the historical timeframe under consideration from 2020 onwards to 2014 onwards.

CALL FOR PAPERSBetter MenHealing Masculinity and Dismantling Patriarchy From Within

What would it mean for a man to come home to himself?

Not the patriarchal self shaped by silence and performance, but the divine masculine. Patriarchy teaches men that strength has no needs, that manhood means enduring and providing. What does it look like to reclaim a masculine self that knows how to grieve and how to celebrate, how to ask for help and how to offer it, how to listen and how to share?

CFP- Silence to Community Witness: Indigenous Literature and Collective Empowerment NeMLA 2027

NeMLA 2027
deadline for submissions:
Wednesday, September 30, 2026

This session explores how Indigenous literary and cultural productions transform histories of colonial violence, dispossession, and erasure into acts of community witness and collective empowerment. Across Native American, First Nations, and other Indigenous traditions, writers have challenged state-controlled narratives that render Indigenous experiences invisible, replacing imposed silence with storytelling practices rooted in survivance, kinship, and communal memory.

ACLA 2027 Seminar: Sinologising Witnessing: Trauma Theory and Chinese Literature and Film

American Comparative Literature Association 2027 Annual Meeting, University of Houston
deadline for submissions:
Tuesday, September 22, 2026

Three decades on, the founding categories of trauma theory: belatedness, aporia, the unspeakable, the event that cannot be claimed, remain largely those of a single archive: European, modernist, post-Holocaust. Stef Craps’s decolonising critique (2010; 2013; 2014) has exposed the field’s marginalisation of non-Western suffering, its universalisation of a Euro-American psycho-diagnostic invention, its prescription of fragmentary modernist techniques as its defining form, and its neglect of the connections between metropolitan and other histories of violence. Yet that critique has been prosecuted largely through postcolonial and Anglophone Global South materials.

AI, Literary Writing, and Remediation: Rethinking Creativity, Form, and Authorship

2027 American Comparative Literature Association (ACLA) Virtual Seminar
deadline for submissions:
Sunday, September 20, 2026

From Christopher Strachey’s Love Letter Generator to today’s generative AI writing tools and multimodal models, AI technologies are reshaping how literary works are created, adapted, and circulated across media. Texts can now be generated, illustrated, voiced, animated, and transformed into comics, audiobooks, visual art, and video, prompting renewed questions about creativity, form, authorship, authenticity, and human agency. This seminar asks: Can AI-generated literature and art be understood as forms of artificial creativity? Does AI expand, automate, or redefine human creativity? How does human–AI collaboration challenge traditional ideas of authorship and authenticity?

Unruly (Re) Readings of the Medieval

International Congress on Medieval Studies
deadline for submissions:
Tuesday, September 15, 2026

We seek submissions on unruly (re)readings of the medieval that drive a wedge into Derrida's

conception of differánce between the signifier and signified of the sign. Various modern media

types, including but not limited to literature, film, television, animation, TTRPGs, video game RPGS,

comics and graphic novels, podcasts, etc., offer an array of opportunities for exploring what we

make of the "medieval" and why. We are interested in work that engages more than

traditional examples of medievalism, especially that which might speak for or represent

perspectives traditionally deemed "unruly." Under-represented paradigms encouraged!

(Dis)embodied Korea and Korean Women in Korean/Korean American Literature, TV, and Film -- NeMLA 2027 Panel

Jina Lee -- NeMLA
deadline for submissions:
Wednesday, September 30, 2026

This panel will investigate representations of Korea, Koreanness, and Korean women's bodies and consider how these representations serve as a site for the reproduction of the sexualized and gendered relationship between the US and South Korea. It will also interrogate these racialized bodies as the site for the articulation of trauma, memory, and historical discontinuities or, alternatively, as potential sites of empowerment.

It will consider how Korean nationalism, national unity, and diaspora are complicated by gender and body politics, and how we may envision gaining agency through depictions of the colonized and militarized Korean peninsula and Korean/American women's bodies as represented in literary, film, and other cultural iterations.

Undergraduate Conference: Humanity, Technology, and the Good Life

Braniff Graduate School of Liberal Arts, University of Dallas
deadline for submissions:
Sunday, December 6, 2026

In Magnifica Humanitas, Pope Leo XIV throws down a gauntlet: “When
human dignity is threatened by new forms of dehumanization, ours is the pressing duty to remain
profoundly human.” What does it mean to remain “profoundly human” in a technological society?
Are any of the advancements that we have come to perceive as essential to western standards of living
at odds with human flourishing? What are the implications, benefits, and costs of the relationship
between humanity and technology? The Braniff Graduate Student Association (BGSA) invites
undergraduate students in all liberal arts disciplines to consider these questions at the Braniff
Undergraduate Conference in the Liberal Arts (BUCLA) on February 5-6, 2027.
